Samsung Smart TV - turning on issues - fix or replace?

hi all

bought a Samsung 55" LED TV - MODEL UA55D6000
from a local, well known and loved seller here on OZb.

bought it in dec 2011, so its way past warranty. has served me well (not that i watch much tv to begin with)

but now its having a 'turning on issue' and trawling through online forums its either a panel or power board issue

my question is, these days, is it worth fixing or just getting a new tv?

i could get slogged couple hundred bucks + for a technician to fix it, or just put that money towards a new tv?

mine served me well, still has the plastic around the frame. :)

any suggestions/advice appreciated!

tl:dr
worth fixing LCD tv's or just easier to buy new?

  • could be one of those transistor issues with those clicking issues on startup…

if it is this, it may be worthwhile getting it fixed. should not cost a lot.

it's definitely not way past warranty.
I'd be following it up with the seller, then samsung if the first option doesn't avail

  • 1 year, 3 months, and 23 days….age of your TV

(that's if you bought on 1 dec 2011)

Stop Trolling and ring Samsung (if the seller is not interested)

  • My Samsung Plasma 4 Months of warranty cost me $899.00 for 1 panel to be replaced and there are 6 of them apparently.

    • do you mean 4 Months past warranty ?

  • 4 months out of warranty.

    Will never buy Samsung again.

    • maybe 1Bugs post would have helped if you had posted at the time your TV was playing up-
Sorry to hear of your experience :( wayacos

    • Ditto wayacos… been bitten by the samsung fail rate also, was a big fan once but will never touch anything with their brand on it again, at any price.

    thanks all!
got in touch with the retailer, he directd me to samsung, and samsung have sent out someone out.

its a circuit board issue. they will replace it.

its out of warranty, but they said they reviewed the case and it was a manufacturing issue so will do it at no cost.

    so far, good result

    thanks all!

Good outcome, moral to the story is don't let these big company's bully you with out-of-date warranty.
