  • if you sell your wii u, dont you effectively lose your downloads? (as in your account) for a extra $5, id be buying a hard copy of zombie u or assassins creed at jb

    • I think there is a method of transferring your purchases to a new console but you have to call Nintendo to transfer the licences to the new machine. Also, if you bought the black Wii U console then anything you purchase on the Wii U store gains you 5% credit to future purchases.

      • is that in Aus or just in the US?

        • It EU wii shop. All Ubisoft titles.
          EU includes Oceania I believe.

  • fire sale.

wiiU bombing all over. japan/usa. the new gamecube

    • It's a little disappointing. Xbox effectively took Nintendo's place in the console market by virtue of Xbox focussing on gaming and Nintendo on gimmicks.

Not to bag Xbox of course - it's a great machine. It's just disappointing that Nintendo aren't getting the clue - without a steady flow of new good games people will either not buy or stop playing the system.

      • Nintendo did way Kodak did… they didn't follow the way the industry was heading…

Its a great machine imo however I'm holding off for the next price drop or so along with holding off for the next Xbox :)

Yeah… considering the Gamecube and original Xbox sold about the same, and the Wii has sold about 25 million more than the 360, I wouldn't exactly say Xbox has taken Nintendo's place. Plus considering the other new consoles haven't been released yet, it's effectively leading the next generation too. Don't get me wrong, I own all the consoles on the market at the moment and think they're all great machines, but let's get some perspective here. The Wii U has had a bad launch but it will sell just fine once some decent Nintendo made exclusives are released later in the year. People were saying the same thing about the 3DS last year and now all you hear is praise for its amazing line up. It's the same almost every generation.

I don't deny that the Wii sold a lot of units, but many people who bought the machine were disappointed with the lack of decent games coming out, such as myself. We had the awesome Mario Galaxies, Zelda etc, but then not really much else. Realistically they put out a game console that after 4 years only had 10 or so games actually worth playing, with the rest being crappy mini games of different varieties.

A brief look over my own game collection says it all. I recently moved house, didn't even bother setting up the Wii with the Playstation and XBox. I have approximately 5 times more Playstation games than Wii games, despite having owned the system for half the time.

Basically I was disappointed by the Wii, which made me not even think about getting the Wii U. From the sales charts I'd say that's a common feeling amongst those whom bought the Wii.

        • Definitely respect your opinion there, but I think that's a pretty subjective thing. Personally, I have about the same number of games that I have played and wanted to hold on to (rather than reselling) on the Wii as I do on 360 or PS3. We've had 2 great Zelda games this generation, 2 awesome Mario 3D titles, plus a few 2D ones like New Super Mario Bros and Paper Mario, both Kirby games were great, Retro's re-imagining of Donkey Kong was great, as was the Metroid Prime series, while Smash Bros and Mario Kart are always fun too. There were loads of Virtual Console games to re-visit from past generations (one of my favourite features of the Wii), and while I definitely take the point that most major 3rd party titles missed the Wii, there were still some standouts like Xenoblade Chronicles, Tatsunoko Vs Capcom, Monster Hunter Tri, No More Heroes, Red Steel 2, The Last Story, Mad World, and Maramusa Demon Blade, all of which were Wii exclusive. As far as the 360 went, I mainly bought mine for the Halo and Fable series, and the PS3 for Uncharted. There were many brilliant 3rd party titles across both those consoles of course, but I would go so far as to say the Wii had the best line-up of exclusives this generation. As most of those exclusives were created and/or published by Nintendo itself, I see no reason not to expect plenty of support for the Wii U in the future.

        • Wii may have sold more units but I recall reading game makers complaining that Wii had the lowest capitalization of all consoles. In other words, Wii owners bought few games, negatively impacting both the game makers and Nintendo (due to licensing fee).

Hilarious that I scored so many negatives to this comment, that PS3 and XBox have in quantity, better games than the Wii. I own all 3 systems so I like to think that I have an informed opinion on the matter.

  • Not an original thought - but the Wii is really good for families, kids under about 14 or so. Simple, fun games that do not require much thought or rule following. But over 14 it definitely loses out to the more complex games offered by the others. And I'm not sure what the WiiU adds to the original Wii, apart from the hand held. Which people seem to either play like a DS (not watching the TV) or just as a normal controller (which the Wii has anyway).

Support that, I have much good and fun time with my friends on WiiU games. Games are easy to pick up but take some time to master it. My personal experience when having friends at home on playing WiiU and Xbox are "Smiling faces" and "Serious faces".

  • The Wii U needs more good games before i'll even consider buying one. As a 360&PS3 owner ports of games on that console aren't going to convince me to buy it. It's the first console since ps1 that i haven't felt the need to get.
