  I think that's the case for multi-vitamin type products and i believe your gut produces enough natural bacteria not to need these. However, things like anti-biotics kill a lot of the natural bacteria that your stomach needs and in my case, i started taking these and it certainly helped me. For those that have had anti-biotics you'll know one of the 'looser' side effects and this fixed it up pretty quickly.
  As an afterthought, there is a refrigerated type and this type. I've only ever been told to take the refrigerated capsules so i'm not sure if these ones are any good.
