  • is there any paperwork that comes with this free device?

    • They do it but that have to 'install' the device for you.

    • There is a 1 year Warranty on the device, and the device has received SAA Certificate - Electrical Product Safety Approval Certification. A user manual is provided along with the installation.

A form needs to be signed by the resident confirming the installation, and also to confirm there has not been any installation at the property previously.

      Thanks.

I'd be interested so long as I don't have to sign anything. But "free installation" of a plug-into-the-socket device, usually comes with a "please sign here" afterwards.

Those AV standby power saver things still circulating which are apparently free, the idea is that they own the theoretical carban savings they provide you with by installing the device. The documents you sign let them sell the carbon off-set back to industry … this is me paraphrasing.

The thing I didn't like was that there is no time limit on your contract, and the exchange applies to the "household", not the "home" - so when you move, with or without these things, the contacted exchange continues.

Meaning, years from now, when the devices a long broken, you're still a supplying a "carbon offset" to an organisation selling it back to industry … and all you get is this plastic crap.

      Again, this is me paraphrasing.

Just be careful when you sign for these things … don't go thinking "I'll never use my carbon off-set blah blah …"

Signing over your carbon savings is for life bro.

      • Meaning, years from now, when the devices a long broken

im neither a lawyer or looked into it very hard, but i would assume because you have a legally binding life long contract with the OP you would have to repair/replace yourself if/when it dies…. if not you could find yourself in court or paying large out of court settlements etc in the future

      • In this case they are selling it to the government as a once-off, as far as I understand it.

I agree though, you have to be very careful.

        • i realise they are selling it to the government, but what exactly are they selling and more importantly how long does it last. they could well be (and i would assume are) selling an indefinite carbon credit, carbon credits dont expire as i understand them

  • +1

They are not 'provided by the government'. The installer puts it in a documents that they think they saved $imaginary amount of electricity, them submits this to the government who pays for the parts/labour.

The installers may be poorly trained, and will also not do a job if they can't easily prove that they save power.

We get inundated with door to door people offering similar deals. There is clearly some sweet state govvy payola that makes this viable for fly-by-nite companies.
Thats YOUR taxes at work, right there…

    • Yeah they knock on my door almost every darn week offerring this rubbish for free (so not exactly a 'deal'. And now they've come to OzBargain…oh no!

      • -3

Our product is a high quality product. Kindly see our website and request you to try one. You may then change your mind. Thanks.

    • Same here

  • Does this work on computers too?

    • There are certainly products under this sceme that do. Note however that 'works' means that they turn off standby power to monitor/printer/whatever. Unless you have a heap of stuff in this category they won't do it.

    • These are not made for the purpose of computer equipment which I assume you have running for long periods of time. These particular devices are timed to turn-off automatically, which can be programmed for 1, 2 or 3 hrs.
This automatic power cut-off can cause damage to your PC as it was not shutdown in the appropriate manner.

  • hahahaha I used to do same job but installing energy saving light bulbs. Made a killing :D

  • it sort of is a freebie though… because it doesn't cost u anything… just costs the government…
    (i don't think it's a fair neg, but yeh it's kinda spammy)

    • +2

it sort of is a freebie though…

no it's not, your taxes are paying for it…

      what a waste !!!!

They're probably betting a couple of hundred bucks of your taxes for something they get for $20 from China….

    • +1

      You pay tax?
YOu would probably spew if you knew how much this scam, I mean scheme cost the govt. So yeah, costs you plenty, just indirectly.

      • yeh well if we're talking about indirect costs… then a lot of freebies have "indirect costs". since when did OzBargainers care about indirect costs.

Do not waste your portion of public money

what, and give it to you… lol…

if I don't make use of it, you won't get my share….

  • Not a deal. Should be listed under freebies.

  • +1

no deal, this is a scam costing taxpayers $$$

      Hi,

This is not a scam. It is approved by the Victorian Government to help you save on your equipment that is consuming energy while on standby.

Do give it a try before you decide.

      • +9

Approved by the Victorian Government. Enough said. SCAM.

        Nuff said.

  • +3

    No Deal,

And why would you want to give away your carbon offset for a plastic piece of junk.

    • -2

Carbon credits are generated by installing various energy saving equipment including and not limited to globes, solar, power saver boards etc.
These are to help you save money and help the environment and future generations. Thanks

      • +1

And what is the end date on the carbon credit that is signed over…..

        • And what is the end date on the carbon credit that is signed over…..

thats what i would love to know, as far as i know they are indefinite

        • +1

This is what I found in the contract when I read it. The rep even called his supervisor to confirm, supervisor couldn't provide an answer … so I left it at: "Thanks, but no thanks".

  • Looks like a great product, although not unlike many others on the market.

A freebie for making an appointment, they run late, you miss your appointment, let some stranger into my house - not worth the hassle imo. I won't vote though since I'm not in Vic

  • what happens if you gave them fake details?

    • This is why they MUST come to your house to install it.

Hey guys, a while ago we got EETECH energy saving power boards. After seeing comments here I checked the paperwork and it seems like we've signed over our right to create Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs) to this company.

So is this very bad that we've signed this over to them? Is there anything we can do? (Besides learn a lesson)

    • I think the way it works is that there is a maximum amount that can be claimed by any household. This is to stop you getting every single one of these deals and massing 100 power boards.

I am not aware of this system carrying over to any other current or future scheme, but who knows what will happen.

    • Each address can get upto 4 units, provided they have 4 televisions.

        Hi Rep
cant help but notice you have ignored not noticed all the questions about how long you have to sign away your rights for the carbon credits in this scam scheme. can you please answer this very important question?

  • +2

Rep, how much exactly is this costing the Vic government?

Edit… Neg due to useless spam.

i try work out how much i could save with this standby switch , i am doing anything wrong in my calculation ?

most electronic device use use > 1W for standby
    365 x 24 = > 8760 = > 8760W = > 8.8 unit electricity per device

lets say we have 3 devices , by connecting standby switch we could save 2 x 8.8 unit = > 17.6 unit
(off set 1 for standby switch power consumption )

    17.6 * 25c = > yearly saving $4.40
