Not a deal when dickdmith selling 3ds for $119

    • -5

Errrrrrr……. I think 99 is less than 119…. but could be mitaken.

      • +6

his talking about a 3ds which is a much more advanced model

      • -7

Remove your neg thanks. Read properly

        • -2

Your neg is pointless to me anyway. Please compare apples to apples. I will remove my post if you can find DSI for cheaper or even the same price.
What you are saying is the people should not buy a 4 cylinder Toyota Camry because of ONE Toyota dealer is selling Camry V6 for just $2000 more with very limited stock.

        • +6

Except we're not talking about $2000, we're talking about $20. Buying an older model (limiting future games greatly), to save $20 seems beyond stupid to me.

        • -1

$20= 20 Mcdouble Burgers or 20 small fries or so on @ Mcdonalds ……(O)

        • my local toys r us store still have plenty of DSi at 79.99 and 3 DSI XL for 99.99.
But again, limited stock. no no neg for this deal

        • -1

I thought you said 3DS XL for $99.99 :( Would jump straight on that if it was the case.

    • DSi is different to 3DS and has different fuunctions, this is a good deal.

      • No it has all the same functions.

        • OK, so please show my the photo functions that are the same. Also please show me flipnote on 3DS.

Oh, wait, they aren't there and you are wrong.

        • Actually Flipnote was just announced on the 3DS a few days ago :)

    • +1

DSi is better than 3DS for DS games, the games don't need to be upscaled like they do on the 3DS

  • -7

Sorry no a way this is a bargain.

  • Good deal with different colours available and presumably lots of stock.
    Thanks.

  • +5

I don't understand why you can't compare a 3ds to a dsi. I'm an owner if boths machines, considering most mainstream Nintendo games are going 3d and less plain 2d. For now, you can say dsi are cheaper, but soon stores will be trying to clear them out. The price of 3ds will gradually decrease in time as stores are willing to sell it cheaper. To me buying a 3ds is better as will maintain its value over time.
For a better comparison, bluray player vs DVD player.
Good price on dsi if you need one, but imo if you can find a cheap 3ds, it's the way to go.

    • I agree, but no need to neg because you don't want the product.

      • +1

His negging because this deal isn't the best value for money.
The DSi line was discontinued. This is clearing out old stock. Even at $20 cheaper then the next option, it still is not the best value for money as the games for it are slowly depleting as much less are being made for it and many are not being restocked.
Most games are being made for the next model (the 3DS) which means the longevity of the DSi is much more limited then that of the 3DS reducing its value further. Include the hardware and software offering less then the 3DS, it further lowers its value making the extra $20 for the 3DS a better value for money.

A neg because something isn't the best value for money and there is a better bargain available seems justified.

TRU were clearing these out at $79.99. Wouldn't be any left now but shows theres still plenty of room for these to be discounted further. Think a lot of mums and dads will see the 50% off and jump on it not knowing that there are potentially better deals out there.

    • one pink one left at knox for $79.99. Just saw it now. Be quick.

Dick Smith were selling the 3DS for $99 a month ago, If i were to get an older model I would at least get a DS lite since it is backwards compatible with Gameboy advance games unlike the DSi.

    • +2

Keep in mind that the DS lite uses an ancient wifi mode that requires you to jump through hoops to use.

  • +1

You can only justify buying the outdated DSi over 3DS if you want to play homebrew.

    • +2

Any "homebrew" that works on a DSi would work on a 3DS, only "homebrew" that doesnt work on a 3DS is 3DS games.

  • I don't see any reason to go negative on this deal UNLESS you can say you can get stock of these colours CHEAPER somewhere else, without spending all day chasing up cheaper stock on long-forgotten deals.

Then there's the fact that some people prefer the older units for various reasons.

    • Maybe they don't like the battery life of the 3DS when playing DS games, which is poorer.
    • Maybe they don't like the way backwards compatibility was implemented on the newer screens.
    • Maybe they don't care about 'longevity' and instead want to play DS games on a unit that just plays DS games (and DSi games…). Retro gamers don't care about longevity either. They enjoy the games and units regardless.
    • Maybe they prefer the look and feel of the DSi versus the newer 3DS.
    • Maybe they have a shedload of games to use on the older system or can buy them cheaply, instead of adopting 3DS right now.
    • Maybe they don't want to pay extra for the 3DS.

In other words, there are reasons to want a DSi instead of a hardly-stocked-cheaper 3DS or hardly-stocked 'cheaper DSi deal you saw weeks ago, with limited colour choices and range.'

Why neg this deal? A 3DS is not a DSi; some things are done differently; newer isn't better in every possible way, some things take steps backwards in some areas the buyer may be interested in.

The DSi was offered cheaper in the past but have fun finding it. What we have here is a new deal with 4 colours which presumably should have lots of stock for a reasonable price.

For those that prefer the DSi to the 3DS, let them enjoy the deal. If you have a better deal ON THE DSi without hunting around all day for stocks or the colour you want, then please post it.

Full credit to the OP for highlighting this deal on here.

    • "Maybe they don't care about 'longevity' and instead want to play DS games on a unit that just plays DS games (and DSi games…). Retro gamers don't care about longevity either. They enjoy the games and units regardless."

  • Will this play my D's lite games? I have a 'shed load' of lite games but my daughter says we need a new console. Thank you.

    • Assuming those are DS games and not Gameboy Advance games, yes. If the later, nope.

      • Thanks. I may call TRU and see if they have one> I don;t care about the colour. I think my daughter does, but not $20 of MY money caring.

  • It is pretty much impossible to find one of the Dicksmith 3DS' for $119 here in SA, this is the next best thing in terms of value for money.

    • Happy to grab one for you from my local dicksmith, chuck in an extra $20 to cover the postage to you adn its yours

  • Seems like absolute insanity to me to buy this over the 3DS for $119. The 3DS plays all DS and 3DS games. Doubling your library of games for an extra $20? No brainer.

  • much worse battery life on the 3DS when playing DS (and 3DS) games & can you find that elusive $119 stock?
Here's what it looks like for me:

    Altona 1.7 Out Of Stock
    Sunshine 5.6 Out Of Stock
    Highpoint 6.2 Out Of Stock
Moonee Ponds 8.2 Out Of Stock
Melbourne Bourke Street 8.9 Out Of Stock
    Prahran 11.4 Out Of Stock

You are not doubling your games by getting a 3DS since 3DS games haven't surpassed DS games releases (not by a long shot) and the DS games can be had for cheaper than 3DS releases.
