Hi Guys, 20W-50 is used by nearly all caryards that sell second hand cars. This oil is thick and mainly used for engines that blow lots of smoke. After running the car/truck for about 30min using this oil it stops the smoke because the oil isnt going through the oil rings. After a few months the oil light will go on and people will just top up with normal oil, that makes the oil thinner and burns faster, then after the oil light goes on again you top it up again making it even thinner till its back to standard oil and it blows smoke again.
I brought a van from a Lebanese guy in Auburn (yeah, stupid i know)and after a few months it all of a sudden blew thick smoke out the exhaust, i took it to my works mechanic and he was the one who told me about this common/dodgy practice.
LOL Sorry RSV1000, you had me at Lebo at Auburn selling vans…
It's called Auburnon for a reason…LOL.
good info, thx
20W-50 is some seriously thick oil. I'd be weary of running that in most modern cars
