The buffalo one seems to be the cheapest. Are they good? Thanks in advance.

  • The weston digital one has Firewire, unclear on USB version. If you don't need firewire get one of the others (or clarify if this has USB3).

Otherwise the difference will only be in the software. You don't need to use any software, but if you have specific software expectations/requirements just get one that meets those.

  • buffolo just makes the case not the drive so google what is the drive inside, and dont ask which drive is better everyone has their own bad / good experiences with each brand.

i think the most important is connection. gget usb 3 if possible, or sata if you have on your desktop/NAS

    • None of those are listed as SATA. SATA is fine (very good actually), but if you do get one with SATA get USB also as a fall back for connecting to other machines.

  • I am looking for an external hard drive myself and giving this input based on going through lot of reviews. I will go with Seagate backup plus since it has got the best reviews out of all. And Buffalo is a good deal since it comes almost 30$ cheap for a 2TB hard drive. I saw seagate backup plus for 114.95$ in costco sydney. You might get better deals now that easter is in two weeks.

  • always seagate goflex / backup plus

    always portable not desktop

    :)

  • I have had both wd and seagate crash on me. Never tried buffalo.
I currently have a usb 3.0 wd drive which has been working great but really its you and your luck they are both reputable brands. Nothing ever comes perfect.

  • My experience with the Buffalo HD-LBU3.

Transferred some files to it, noticed it getting very hot - 55C according to SMART. Sitting on an open shelf with ambient temps at 25C. Contacted Buffalo to see if this was normal, took 2 weeks to reply with the blame game - your monitoring software is incompatible with this model. Bullsh*t, SMART is SMART.

Today literally plugged it in for the 3rd time and it's dead. Did some reading on Buffalo forums and if you open it up to try to recover data, you void the warranty. Lose lose.

    • I have Seagate, HP and WD and so far no problem at all. Was looking at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/97843 for a friend, good price for 1.5TB Portable but so much negativity about Toshiba drives there put me off.
