Best BYO post-paid plan around $30 p/m

Hey guys,

I'm currently on a $29 Big Cap with Virgin which costs me $19 p/m due to BYO phone. I'm regularly exceeding the $450 texts/calls I get, so I want to step it up. Unfortunately when I got the plan it was a limited time offer and I would have to go to $39 p/m ($49 cap) to actually be upgrading at all - over double what I'm currently paying.

So it got me thinking, what would be the best deal for me?

I'd suggest going to an unlimited offer as there are deals for not much more than what you're paying.

If you need a post paid option I'd suggest the $29 Unlimited plan from Vaya.

If you were happy to go prepaid there are plenty of options. This thread on Whirlpool gives a good rundown of most unlimited offers.

    • Or the $17 Vaya Flexiplan L
$700 Calls(30c Flagfall and 45c/30 seconds), free SMS and 2Gb data
      No Contract
      http://www.vaya.net.au/?option=Mobile&simonly

(why would anyone choose the FlexiPlan XL over the identically priced and with more data Unlimited?)

      • Unless, that's actually the "acceptable usage" for Vaya's unlimited plan. See this thread on Whirlpool regarding to the limits of Kogan's unlimited plan.

Better be quick if you want this plan, the new 4g plans will mean the end of new signups for it very soon.

        • If you choose the 3g month to month plan, does that mean when the 4g plans replace the 3g plans, I'd have to go to the 4g plan or I stay on the 3g plan, but they only allow new signups to the 4g network?

        • I stay on the 3g plan, but they only allow new signups to the 4g network?

Based on what I've read it's this.

        • Thanks a a a… It's what I thought, but just wanted to check, lol…

  • Vaya.

  • Vaya, being on Optus network, would be closest to what you are getting on Virgin. Alternatively there's also Kogan Mobile on Telstra's network that's $29/30 days, and it comes with 6GB data instead of 4GB.

  • Does anyone know if Kogan's reception would be any better on the east coast than Vaya's?

    • Depends on your phone. Not all phones can see Telstra's network and similarly, not all phones can see Optus's network.

  • Telstra's reception is better than Optus' reception in the south of Sydney, but I suppose it depends if you base yourself around city centres/main routes or do a fair bit of travel off those locations.

You might be better having a look at the mobile providers coverage maps to draw your own conclusion.

They all say that they cover me, yet I still lose reception or have to wait multiple minutes for web pages to load.

      • Once again, your phone could be the issue here.

  • i use the woolworths cap because it lasts 45 days and when they had the special i bought alot of them. if you check ozbargain frequently you will find things like this to stock up on i.e redbull

  • What about Red Bull MOBILE Access 365 Monthly Postpaid?

    $30/Months
Data included: 5 GB / month
Standard National & Mobile Calls: Unlimited
    Standard National SMS/MMS: Unlimited
    13/1300 & 18/1800 calls and Voicemail: Unlimited
    Red Bull MOBILE Portal: Included

i dont like redbull much, if you dont have credit they dont let other people call you.

      • -1

er… other people can call you for up to 6 months after having no credit herp derp.

        • +1

really because thats not what they told me last week when my credit ran out.

        • But I 'was' receiving calls no problem two weeks ago before I ported away…

          I would've died if i wasn't able to recieve those calls…

  • Kogan mobile is a great deal.

    • Just be aware that the definition of 'unlimited' is highly subject to interpretation if the recent bluster of Whirlpool is anything to go by ;) Great entertainment value if nothing else.

      • Can I get some detail on this?

        • See scotty's link above.

    • Agreed. Kogan is the best one on UNLIMITED calls and texts plus 6GB data a month. I got two unlimited numbers with them (for my wife and my son), paying $299 for 365 days per number. Don't expect services from them though! But generally speaking, after porting/activation, you don't need their service at all. Just make sure that you phone is 3G 850Mhz compatible though (Telstra and Vodafone 3g are on 850Mhz). Great coverage and signal strength, reasonable internet speed.

        can you tether the data?

        • +1

Sure from kogan you can, I use my iPhone 4 so can confirm that bit…

        • thanks
