Any High Calorie energy/protein bar (over 400 Calorie)???

Hi everyone,
This is my very first post on OzB. Hope eveyone is ok with subject.

I am having hard time eating meals. I have no appetite for food. I need to consume atleast 2,500 Calorie ("C" capital) in order to gain weight due to my slim body shape.

I remember once i bought energy bar from aldi "ENDURO bar_80g_$1.99" & it had Calories over 400. Now they don't have it anymore.

I am looking for something that have higher Calorie and easy to consume most importantly.

Any suggestions are well come. Also, note that i don't wanna spend too much money. Probably I am looking for something cheaper as I aim to buy in bulk (say 2-3 packs/carton).

I would firstly suggest asking your doctor and also going into a bodybuilding shop and having a look at some of their mass gainers. You would want to have healthy food though and these bars are probably full of binders and stuff that you don't want too much of. If you have trouble eating you could try some shakes as well intermittently to get your calories up. You could make your own natural peanut butter, oats, whey and honey bars. Seek medical advice first.

    • Thanks for reply.
The doctor was no help for me. As for the mass gain products, I asked the nutrition guy (nutrition seller "his info could be biased but he seemed to be experienced guy") and they gave me a mass gain product and i tried it for a week and couldn't consume it anymore as it made me bloat occasionally.

    Try another doctor.

  • 25,000 calories? that's insane or a typo.

    • Ops sorry. Yh typo. It was meant 5000 Calorie. Lol that was huge

      • Sorry 2,500 Calories.
        Damn man

  • Pork belly is probably the best value food for calories. 500 calories per 100g. Asian butchers usually have it for $10/kg.

Can be baked in oven then refrigerated and reheated whenever u need the calories.

    • I would probably not go for meat, though neither i am vegetarian not vegan. The reason for bars are, bcz i want them to hv during my lecture and breaks.

Bars are really expensive. You're better off with mass gain powders. You don't have to drink them - you can add them to other foods, eg mix a scoop of powder with plain yoghurt/cottage cheese for extra calories.

Here's a random list I found by googling it:

    http://www.projectswole.com/supplements/21-foods-to-mix-with…

Also you really should try a different doctor, sounds like the first guy sucks.

    • They are in fact expensive. I would try the link u provided as well. Thnx

Someone who actually need all those hungry jack whopper coupons.
Your main problem is lack of appetite for food. I don't have much appetite for food either, but I do eat when I am hungry. I devour roasted nuts. cannot eat raw nuts. They make me bloat.

You can try using mass gainers to make protein bars yourself. You can add extra stuff in it for more calories.
I have a pdf recipe book for stuff to make with protein bars if you are interested. PM me.

    • Even when I get hungry, i don't feel like eating. Its just strange, some times even I starve badly, I eat very little and feel vomiting if i eat a little more.
I would love to try ur receipe.

      • Dude that doesn't sound normal to go to starving… have you asked your doctor about this?

        • Just visited doctor. They do a blood test

  • Welcome Oz Bargain.I seriously suggest you talk to a dietician /nutritionist before you go on any drastic diet change. You are not a medical professional…so the knowledge of what you want to do,how to do it and the effects of all the options you take may be sketchy at best…dangerous at worst, and simply eating eating protein bars to bulk up is not a viable option (excessive amounts of protein can cause some nasty health rebounds….plus those things cost more than actual food)neither is consuming vast amounts of crap food….yeah it will put on the weight you want, but we all know the rest of that story (the only thing you'll get is weight from added fat…..NOT lean muscle as is the whole aim here, plus the risk of elevated BSL,TGL,LFT and a host of other issues). Also, get yourself to another Dr….ASAP.You need someone who is going to help you with this, and send you in the right direction. Also, get into some light cardio and resistance training…..help to strengthen your cardiac muscle from the cardio, and skeletal from the resistance….which will add weight from healthy muscle gain.

    • Thnx parisienne for ur kind suggesstion. I would try to see someone too.
I hv also started working out (weight lifting) at home twice a week. I would hope for things getting better.

    • Can you link me to this study of 'having too much protein is bad', please?

  • Start on the GOMAD routine.

Or make your own protein bars, that way you can control how much stuff you want to put in. Plus it'll probably work out cheaper and so easy to make.

  • Although I am unable to tell you about bars we have clients with the same issue. We recommend most clients to try our Dymatize Super Mass Gainer and most seem to be having good results. It gives you around 1280 calories per serve. Here is the link: http://shopaustralia.pickmepickme.com/en/supplements/37-dyma… We are adding new items from The Protein Bakery next week so I will repost when I get product details on their bars and cookies.

    • I am pretty sure 1280 Calories per serve would be indigestible. And must hv pretty nasty taste.
Tell me more about. (Taste, bloat, etc)

  • I use Dymatize products myself and I never had and issue with taste. They are award winning for taste. But I have never used a gainer and hence can't talk about. My friend is skinny and has trouble gaining and he has had some good results with it and never complaint about it. But he uses the version down from it which is called Dymatize Elite Mass which gives you around 600 calories per serve. Also if you have high metabolism I would also recommend flaxseed oil to be added to you diet to slow down your metabolism maybe. But a dietician would know best. Hope it helps.

How about home made food, can you stand being around food?

Home made protein bars are easy to google and a lot cheaper than shop ones.

5000 Calories is a lot, doesn't the average person need 2500. So assuming you are not 7 foot surely 3000 Calories would slowly put on weight?

Any pasta based dishes or fast foods are high in calories.

You say you are a slim body - what are your stats? 5000 Calories is a HUGE amount. If you visit a nutritionist (or measure it yourself) get them to measure your BMR - with your basic energy requirements. Then eat more than this - increase if you don't see an increase in your weight.

    • Ah damn man!!! These calories. First time i posted 25,000 Calories which i meant 2,500. Then i edited the post to remove one zero, n again typed in wrong Calories. Yes, average Calories are 2,500 per day. Thnx guys for pointing that out.
      Excuse my typo

Have you considered lifting weights? I don't know your fitness level but all this weight gain you are going to do can add a crap load of fat to you if you do it fast, if you are slim why not use it as an opportunity to build muscle?

    Here is a sales pitch:
Lifting weights burns very little calories itself, but it can help you build lean mass, gain strength, improves coordination, improve nervous system, improve cardiovascular system, strengthens bones, control blood sugar levels to help prevent diabetes, reduce fat around organs, provide better joint support, improves posture, reduce risk of injury outside of training, help improve mood and counter feelings of depression.

The benefits of weight training is huge, 3 times a week for 40 minutes can make a huge difference. If you have never done it, see a trainer that can help. You don't want a routine that burns too many extra calories.

    -Edit-

You could also keep an eye out here, and just buy on sale protein bars moving from company to company.

Thanx op for your contribution. In regards to weight lifiting, yes I just started weight lifting at home (2-3 days a week as I have some weight lifting equipments). After few weeks then I might join gym. But atm I am seeing a doctor and hopefully, will start some routine workout once I finish with doctors things.

      • Excellent, I just started in the past 2 months and I am loving the benefits. Still a long way to go though.

  • Drink milk like water, you will bloat and fart a lot, and you will gain weight.
