Try service central. I just it in Melbourne and I get very reasonable quotes.

service seeking, you can get people to bid for your job and then leave feedback about them, don't pay if your not happy with the work carried out, stand your ground, its your home.

  Just set the standards required and put in measurable ways to determine if quality is achieved. Have it written and quoted so u have some basis than simply not paying.

Good luck it is hard to find a reliable handyman, maybe ring a few local real estate agents and find who they use, and if you do not need to have a builder, then do not get a builder to quote you as it will cost more.
