Hi Guys,
The battery on my Dell Inspiron 1720 is past it's use by date. Can anybody recommend where I can get a new one. I notice on Dell's website they have one for $96, is this the norm. I am bit wary of buying any off Ebay but I would welcome any suggestions.

I usually recommend Dr Lappy, but their 6-cell battery for the 1720 is $159, so give them a miss.
ive bought one from dealextreme, it was about 30% of the price, but it was crp, but at the same time so was my laptop, and i think you should consider if ur laptop is worth another 100 bucks investment too. just my opinion thou.
If you're brave I suppose you can try to replace the lithium cells inside the battery housing itself. Most laptop batteries usually use 18650 batteries that you can source cheaply from deal extreme.
How long do you plan to keep running the laptop, if its another year, then get the del battery.
Otherwise any reputable ebayer is fine, where do you think the original battery was made ;)

Did a bit of searching and turned this up.
Be wary of clones and fake replacements from China. They're usually poorly built, often using cells from other old laptop batteries and hacked together into a "new" one.
