From PayPal newsletter -

Do you need something designed? Why limit yourself to ideas from one designer or agency? 99designs.com is a new and interesting way of getting more than 25,000 talented designers from around the world to compete to design your logo, business cards or websites. Listings cost US$39 each. However, PayPal customers
who sign up before 28 Jan 09 will receive US$20 worth of credits absolutely FREE. Credits are valid for 3 months.

So if listings are $39 each, you get a $20 discount, making them $19 USD. Never used them but I have seen some designs and they look reasonable. You get what you pay for though!

  • Looks like OzBargain needs a new logo design…

    • Nah, the logo is fine I reckon. 9 of the top 10 logo's in the world are the companies name itself (such as Coca-Cola). The one missing is the M symbol for McDonals.

Anyway, Sitepoint.com offers a similar and predominately more free service, however, this sounds pretty good too.

    • If anything … could add a smiley face :)

  • I think this is a bit misleading. You get $20 off the $39 listing fee but all that does is allow you to host a contest. You are still required to pay for the designs. You do get to set the price you will pay, but the average appears to be between $250 and $750.

    • Absolutely, but for anyone who's building a website or running a company, paying $250-750 for a semi-decent design is a bargain. This isn't suited for bloggers or people who run small websites, but for those who are looking at monetising their content.

Of course, you could offer your contest money as $20, and you'll get some suitably crappy designs. Still, for many people who have no ability to design a logo, paying under $50 USD would be a steal.

I personally have not used their service, and don't plan to, but it seems like a good idea.

    • It's not misleading one bit. Its $20 credit towards your account. Its $20 saving ANYWAY you see it.

A logo competition is around $150-200 for decent number of entries. That in itself is a bargain when you consider how many entries you get (20-30). 20-30 drafts from a design agency would alone cost your over $1000+.

The London 2012 olympics paid hundreds of thousands for their crappy little logo :)
