      I haven't got a TV bigger than 40". That's probably why I think it's pretty good. So what's good?

        just a bigger screen is no good without high resolution
        what's good now: Full HD
        what's good in future: 4K for even bigger screens

        your 40" was good enough with this sort of HD resolution so you never really noticed the problem

        You'd be better off getting a 40" 1920x1080 screen than a 51" 1024x768 one.

        But I'd stretch an extra $103 and get the Samsung 51" PS51E531A6M Full HD model. World of difference. And free shipping too.

      I have a 50" 720p Panasonic plasma. It's very nice. Nothing to sneeze at.

      Having said that, I bought it over 5 years ago. No way I'd settle for anything less than 1080p today, even at this price.

    Get something worthwhile… spend the extra and get at least full hd LCD/LED.
