my elderly parents loved the android tv box i got for myself and ask if i could get them one too. but with some china tab having really low prices, ie maybe $20-$30 more than an android tv box, i thought i should get them a tab instead. whats your thoughts on this guys ? lets have a vote, if you vote for a china tab please recommend one that is near the price of an android tv box. if you vote for android tv box, please recommend one that has good specs for the price. thanks for your help fellow ozbargainers !

is it really that bad ? i mean would my elder parents feel a difference ? i never had one before so i dont really know much about china tab. some aliexpress sellers have good reviews though.
If your grandys are savvy enough to understand what an Android TV box does, then yes, I reckon they will notice.
Build quality of a $50 tablet will be poor, screen quality is going to be shocking (viewing angles, contrast and brightness will all be low) and performance is going to be sluggish at best.
Comparatively, the TV box is going to perform reasonably well, cause they wont have had to cut as many corners to meet the pricepoint, (ie the component cost is going to be something like; $35 on a CPU, $5 on memory and $0 on a screen for a TV box, versus $20 on a screen and $15 on a crappy bottom end CPU and $5 on memory for a tablet)They're also completely different use cases.
One is designed to show media content on a TV from the comfort of a couch, the other is a handheld device for use on the go..
If they like your TV box, they most likely like it for the fact they can use it to view movies and photos from the couch.Bought a tab from China last year for $70 that hardly worked.
Buy them a Minix Neo G4, they would love it.
For the same price, get the TV box every time!
A $50 tablet is going to be terrible!
