Samsung Galaxy S4 - Scrolling controlled by eyes?

Though there is no official word from Samsung on the features and specifications of the upcoming Galaxy S IV smartphone, the rumour mill has started churning out rumours concerning the same.

According to a new report from The New York Times, Samsung Galaxy S IV is likely to have an eye scrolling feature, thereby enabling users to scroll through webpages without even touching the screen of the phone.

"The phone will track a user's eyes to determine where to scroll, said a Samsung employee who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the news media. For example, when users read articles and their eyes reach the bottom of the page, the software will automatically scroll down to reveal the next paragraphs of text," said the report.

I hope this behaviour can be turned off.

Interesting feature, but something like this will no doubt chew through your battery life due to the processing required to track your eyeballs.

And running the camera the whole time. And unless you are in a bright area do they shine a light in your face? Glasses are also likely to cause problems. I really don't see this working.

i doubt it'll be able to find my eyes

  • The S3 has a basic version of this - it detects your eyes to keep the screen on while you're looking at it (so it doesn't go into standby while you're reading a webpage and not scrolling/touching the screen). I have it enabled, and the only time I ever see it work it's sitting on my desk and I'm not actually using the phone. I doubt it will work.

  • Sounds technologically advance, however what happens if two people are reading from the phone?
