WoolWorths Single Use Prepaid Master Card $1.18 Instore Only

80

Went to get a Prepaid Single use Credit card from Woolworths and found they still had the Older version (pre 2010 version) which has a fee of $2.95 for loading. The newer versions have a $3.95 loading fee so I was lucky I found the older version. Went to the register to load $20 on it and it came up as $1.18.

Minimum required charging amount is $20 with a maximum limit of $1000.
Much cheaper option than then the Visa load and go at 6.95 with many other various fees.

They had a good amount of the Pre2010 versions left maybe somewhere around 20-30 at my local one.
Card expiration dates on the 2010 vers. were in 2014 and the newer vers. had better expiration dates at a higher cost of course.

Not sure if they're just trying to get rid of the older versions or it was on special or if it's just my woolies.

Before I go running down the road with pockets full of cash, I presume the card + the $20 load cost $21.18 all up (and not just $1.18).

<footnote>You can never be too sure ;-)</footnote>

    • Ha I was wondering whether this would come up yes you have to pay a total of $21.18

  • Any ID required when you buy one of these?

    • Sometimes they ask for ID, I've bought two in the past, once I was asked for ID and the other time I wasn't.

Guess it depends on the cashier.

    • You can scan these at the self-checkout.

    • For the Single use no id is supposed to be required for the Re-loadable id is required.

  • get a Load&Go Visa from AusPost, it doesn't have reload fees

Yeah, but I believe that it is laden with transaction fees.

    • I haven't done too much reasearch on the reloadables but the point of my purpose was to get the cheapest Single use with no ID attached so I could try a 14 day Free trial of a cooking website without any fears of them not honoring the cancellation.
Visa does sell a single use CC at Auspost but the fees where much higher than the WWMC.
      Luckily my website accepted MC.

Also gonna try out that Aussie Netflix equivalent too.

  • Paid with a $50 .. high roller!

with bigger bills I'm less likely to break or spend on small stupid things.

  • its not easy not get though… I always use this card for paying online, i get 1 of them every month, all the stores i've been to only have $3.95 newer versions which i did check for the $2.95 ones when they just changed it

What is the point of these cards?

    • +1

      no personal details

      • +8

        you actually pay for porn?

      • +2

        no application.
        not linked to an account.
you can provide the cards details to webshop sites that seem maybe dodgy and if things go pair-shaped then it is only that card that is going down. (though I would not pay by CC with any overseas site unless it was somewhere reliable-ish e.g. meritline. or one that has escrow service e.g. aliexpress.

        • get a bank account with Visa debit
put limited money in that account

if there's anything wrong with the seller
you could always tell the bank it's lost & they issue a new number/new card

what's the need for these "Prepaid VISA cards"?

        • Like a lot of things, these days, the need is on Visa's side, IMO… ;-)

Used mine to do a free trial of a cooking website so I could batch download all the recipes then cancel the service with no fears of them not honoring the cancellation.

    • also, they used to be available for movie rent machines, but some sneaky guys used these cards to steal the dvds and now its not available anymore

    • Paypal refuses to allow gifts to other countries for last few years outside flower webstores. Prepaid gift cards are great for sending presents directly, got to hate aus post prices.

  • Any reloadable card available that can be load with another credit card? I couldnt find one yet.

    • Don't think so.
I think it's a security thing so crooks can't steal an Actual credit card buy one of these with no id and then use them without fear.

  • any reason why you can't use these overseas?

is there any extra charges associated with foreign currency purchases etc?

or is anyone aware of a link which i can use to find the info myself?
    Cheers

  • Do they work for amazon instant video rentals? My AU credit cards do not.

  • Paying using one of these CC's via Paypal is not accepted during my experience.

Also, what address do people use when buying with these?

  • What's the advantage of such a card… especially, with such a cost?!?
