I helped a client to purchase a mobile broadband kit and noticed Optus dropped its prices for prepaid 3G & 4G mobile broadband starter kits since 1 March. It is a cheap way to buy the hardware. Unknown expiry date but probably 31 March.
When you check the web pages, they say the included data (3GB or 5GB) expire in 30 days. But the shop assistant told me (and I can confirm for the store-bought E3131 3G USB kit) that Optus has increased the amount of data (3GB to 5GB, 5GB to ?) and extended the expiry to 60 days.
Edit: If you hurry then the starter kits may come with more data and longer expiry than that shown on the web pages. I can confirm this for the E3131 kit store-bought on 1 March but YMMV. (Thanks Chux for the info.)
Type | Gadget | Was | Now | Discount |

3G | E3131 USB Modem | $99 | $49 | 50.5% |
3G | E5331 Mini Wifi | $129 | $79 | 38.8% |
4G | E3276 USB Modem | $169 | $129 | 23.7% |

Sigh, just bought the E589.
