Coles Fenici Coffee Machine $39

420

Long time listener first time caller :)

this is a Nespresso compatible coffee pod machine. I have tried both the Nespresso and Coles Piazza D’Oro L’OR Espresso capsules and it works well and tastes good.

Bought this a few weeks ago when it was on special at $49 at coles. It is now $10 cheaper

Kmart had the same machine under their own brand at $29, but has sold out

Same machine is $139 on late night TV shows: http://shop.television4me.com.au/63-giovanni-coffee-machine.…

i bought one for my office.

it leaks a little where the pod goes in. have to have a tray underneath to catch the leakage.

sometimes the lights flash to say it's thinking about things and you can't get a coffee happening. regardless of how many times you push the buttons - annoying.

I had an aldi machine before this one. it was simpler. less problems.

    • there is a tray underneath! All you have to do is make the coffee, wait a few seconds to get the last drops in the glass, then open the cover and wait a few more seconds(more water drops and the used pod will fall in the tray)
Also, remember to empty the tray(pods and water/coffee) every 3-4 uses and you will be fine.
If you don't, eventualy the water in the tray will leak underneath the machine.
It's not the best machine but for $39(i got it from kmart for $29 for work) it's definitely worth it!
P.S. I saw a couple at Coles Earlwood NSW last week
P.S2 Mine has the same bug, when it goes in stand-by led lights flash every 5 seconds but the machine doesn't always wake up unless you turn the switch off and on which is annoying cause even if the machine is already warmed up you need to wait a significant amount of seconds till the machine becomes ready again

      • yeah, this is an office machine. maybe 10 coffees first thing in the morning. the tray fills in no time. considering the area under the base, the design of this machine could have been made so much better with a bigger catchment area.

        • Except it's not designed to be an office machine.

So yes, it's not an industrial grade espresso machine for $39.

        • the Aldi machine held up no problem in the office for 12 months.

only got rid of it for the nespresso compatible machine as people were tired of the taste of aldi pods.

    • Isn't the ALDI one also have a tray like this one?

With the ALDI one you also have to clean the tray every several cup?

      • the aldi tray is waaaay larger in comparison.

you could easily run 20 cups through before you'd have to empty it.

    • How noisy is the machine? I've seen other people try using these at work at their desk but due to the loud noise it makes it isn't practical to have on the floor.

Probably not a practical thing to have at your desk as the extra power drawn may trip a fuse.

I remember a guy at my work had a sandwich toaster at his desk once and tripped the fuse taking out all PCs around him. He wasn't very popular :)

      • I dont think its noisy at all, but in a super quiet office who knows, the smell of the coffee would be nice though.

    Thanks OP. A good buy.

Your call IS important to us.

  • Do u need a seperate milk frother for this?

    • yes

      • I have the ALDI one is there any milk frothed better? I like how Nespresso milk frother but too expensive,

    • I use a machine similar to this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Greek-Nescafe-Frappe-Electric-Chr… to froth up milk I have heated in the microwave.

Kmart has a homebrand frother on special for $19. The Aldi version is about $25.

      • I have the homemaker frother, it works quite well and has a good and sturdy build too. It also heats the milk, whilst frothing; can make cold froths, and chocolate drinks, and frothy instant coffee drinks hot and cold.:-D

  • Super IGA has the capsules to suite 30 for $10

    • ExpressO 3 boxes for $10 at my local IGA

  • Makes the woolies one I brought at $79 look expensive :(.

    • Don't bring it out so noone will see and it won't look expensive

  • How does this compare with the Kmart one in the past deal?

    • I would say Kmart deal is better as it was cheaper, it's the same machine just different colour

      • Yes but I don't think they have it anymore.

  • Good machine. Office works espresso pods are also compatible. Make sure you lift the pod lid a few times to get the last drips of coffee out.

  • Gonna go by Kmart to see if the $29 deal still applies otherwise this is a good one. Have got some extra Piazza d'oro pods to burn!

  • anyone had it before ? Like to get one but hopefully can get some feedback from anyone who used it before :)

    • We have one of the Kmart Homemaker brand in the office for about 4 months already. Bought it when it was $69 back then. Still works flawlessly. Better than the cheapest delonghi nespresso at $299 that automatically drops the pod to the waste container therefore you cannot add more hot water if you wished to.

  • I've got a Kmart one.
Got tired of the coffee in it, and using reusable capsules just wasn't cutting it, due to not being able to fit enough coffee in it.

Luckily a friend sold me his Delonghi full automatic coffee machine (grind + make) for $170 haha. Coffee is ALOT better.

If you seriously like your coffee and don't want the hassle of a manual coffee maker (e.g. have to fill up the machine yourself etc etc. Then invest in a full auto coffee machine. Around $400-500. Then get yourself a reusable cup to take around, like Keep Cup.

You'd save heaps of money instead of going to the coffee shop.
    $500 machine cost.
Coffee at shop: $3 per cup
1 Cup Per day: 166 days till break even

Even faster to break even, if your partner and yourself both use it!

Your ROI analysis does not take coffee, milk and electricity cost into account.

      • Beans: $25 for 1kg (If you ozbargain it)
Electricity: Cannot be bothered calculating it, as both machines use electricity, boiling the water would take the most and both of them do it.

No matter how you calculate it, making coffee at home will always be cheaper than the coffee shops.
Don't need a complete ROI Analysis to confirm common sense.

You can even go into time analysis if you want, considering you have to go to a store every morning, and wait in line to get coffee. All the time you wasted there…. you could be out getting paid.

        • Haha, was just kidding.

          Lets say 200 days. Deal?

        • …and if you skip breakfast and quit drinking coffee you will have even more time to go out and earn more money right? :)

        • At the end of it, its the quality and taste of the coffee that matters, not the stats :)

        • He didn't account for the labour required either!

What about the coffee's you don't execute perfectly. (Unless you're a barista?)

    • Yer the Delonghi Auto coffee machine is a lot LOT better :D I have one (2 actually, was given another one) but it Originally cost $1700.

You get what you pay for so the Kmart one was really good for $29 :P

  • IMO use a Bodum / Plunger for superior coffee. What's more, you can vary the strength simply by how much coffee you use. Harris Espresso is my current favourite.

Oh, and in the trolling words of JINNY1, it uses less power than a Plasma TV. So save Mother Earth (L0L) and try not to sound like a clown.

    • Plunger better than a proper coffee machine!!!! You're kidding yes……

      • They make incredibly different types of coffee, neither is better than the other.

When you say 'proper coffee machine' I believe you are referring to an Espresso machine.

  • We have a proper coffee machine already but this little unit would be perfect for holiday and even my remote fishing trips,
Small light and no stuffing around to get my daily fix.
    Will be buying one.

    • Unless you're set on Espresso on your only kind of coffee, consider Aeropress for portability.

  • Anyone find one of these machines?

I looked at 3 coles stores and none on the shelf (Thornlie WA)

Wanted another one as I bought the cheapy from Kmart for work and want a spare for home, Ive been stocking up on too many pods.

  • I just picked up the last one at coles Melton (Vic)
It looks like they may be clearing out the last of the existing stock. Still am happy to have found this deal. Now…I just need to find some cheap compatible coffee pods.

    • COTD have them, they are really nice, best ive found so far and cheap..

  • I still think the best kept secret for these machines is the eBay refillable pods. You get to use the coffee you like best, and save heaps compared even to buying the el-cheapo pre-prepared pods.
