How are these Lexars? Write's a bit slow for USB 3 at only 20mbs

    • +5

I have the 32GB version, it's quite fast. It usually starts off at 190MB/s or so (if you can believe Windows) and over a while slows down to more sustained speeds around 25MB/s, but most of my transfers are done before it hits that point.

However, I've found the reliability to be questionable. I've lost data on it a few times. The GB used is still used, but the drive appears empty. I can't get my data back, and the only way to get my space back is to reformat it.

I think the data is still there since it hasn't freed up the space, but I can't access or see it.

I would not use this as anything more than a backup, or a movie device you plug into your TV. DO NOT PUT DOCUMENTS IN IT or anything you can't retrieve from somewhere else should it go corrupt and lose your data.

Maybe I just have a bad stick. Since the problem happens intermittently, it's going to be hard to RMA it because flingshot will put it in and say, it works… what's the problem?

This problem does not occur on any of my other sticks (and I have more than 10 of them). Either I got a dud, or perhaps the product is unreliable.

Anyway, the speed is not a problem, despite the numbers being advertised.

I'm tempted to buy the 64GB anyway just to tempt fate.

Send us an email, we will swap it out for the 64GB for you. It sounds faulty for sure.

We are pretty easy to deal with when it comes to faults, we try to side with the customer rather than the device. Most customers are not going to go out of their way to make up a random intermittent fault. I mean there are obviously crazy people out there in the world but even then it is probably going to be easier for us to just refund or replace the unit than to try to troubleshoot a non existent fault!

        • +2

Wow. If you're willing to replace my stick which you may or may not be able to replicate problems with for a 64GB, I think you just got yourself a new fan for life!

Going to send that email. Thanks again.

Well, at least their service can't be questioned.

Worst case it is not faulty and we have another boot drive laying around for the techs!

But yeah just email us with your order number and we can work out what the price difference is etc. We will just send the 64GB with a return envelope for the faulty one.

          @Flingshot.. That's how ya do business!! :-)

          very nice customer service! +

      • The problems you describe are exactly the same thing that happens with my 64Gb PNY that I picked up from here. Using it just for movies, however about 30% of the things copy across appear currupted, they copy fine but when launched they crash. Have had the same file work the first time its copied, but not the second. Its been formatted in every possible format to with same results. I currently scanning with Spinright but its found nothing and I doubt it will, just random issues.

        • When you say from here you mean OZB rather than Flingshot right?

        • Thats right, not flingshot unfortunalty. Ill have to dig out my invoice and see if where I bought from has the same response.

thanks for the info lostn. Bit concerning, anyone have similar issues with these drives?

        • nope so far. My orange lexer 32GB USB 3.0 has been working quite well although i dont see where this 100+mb/s is coming from : ( wish i had those speeds. I get mostly around 23mb/s which is great considering thats atleast 2x the speed of generic USB 2.0

I have not had any memory losses yet and i've done quite a bit of formatting as they get clogged up with my photography and i require hard drive backups. So far all is good.

      • use testdisk it can get your data back if you havent reformated.

  • Thanks heaps! Gonna grab the USB and some laptop RAM!
I've gotta say that the whole checkout process was made so easy!!!

No problem, thanks for the feedback.

I got the 16gb lexar from flingshot last month for $12. Speeds are pretty decent, usually 25-30mbps for files over 1GB. Smaller files transfer way faster.

  • any words on the 32GB version getting restock?

    • Probably not. We are working on a new bulk deal for 32Gb though.

      • same model or faster?

        • +4

Different model, looking into a high speed option.

        • NICE

      • Sounds good, I got the Verbatim 16 gb usb3 last time, Ill be waiting for the the next 32Gb deal =)

  • How does the 64GB Lexar USB 3 compare to the 32GB supersonic USB 3 from MSY?

    • That looks like a usb 2 model, I might be wrong though because I can only find the model at office works and they don't say.

      • It is the USB2 model and by all accounts slow.

        • Thanks for confirming.

    Hi Mate,
    Love your support,
Any deal on the 32 GB or 64 GB micro SD card?

Would love to buy one for my S3, preferably the faster speed one please ;-)

The Wife is out of town, so just the right time to buy tech stuff. Honey I tried calling you, your phone was off. ;-)

    • +1

We have tried micro sd deals before any they never did that well, even when the pricing was pretty great. In order to get really good prices we need to buy in bulk and we just never seem to get the sell through on them.

That said we are looking into a sandisk deal soon so we might have some of the ultra micros in there.

      • Rep,
Mate if you can beat the last deal for a fast 32 GB micro usb drive,
        Count me in too.

        • +1
        • hmmm, mate sounds interesting,

I was planning for the 32 GB , but I guess I could stretch for the right price.

Never bought a Kingston before, Always used Sandisk before,

As long as it doesn't give me trouble,

    • Yeah me too, looking for a good deal on 32GB SD for my new 4X HD… need fast speed so I can directly record 1080p movies on it.. on my previous phone I had problems with movies lagging because of bad sd.

  • +1

Thanks OP, just picked up a USB stick. Just in time to put movies on it for while I'm at uni.

    • +5

Movies of your lectures I assume!

  • That Touro Pro looks tempting.

Are you planning any deals soon including the Synology DS413?

  • $9 for 16GB USB 3 drive. Crazy price!

  • Nevermind, Just googled.

  • If you are looking to do a deal on high speed USB 3.0. PLEASE do Sandish Extremes. Bought one recently and it is insanely fast. Fantastic drive and great brand :)

    • We were going to do sorny, is that ok ;)

      • +1

If they're similar speeds, sure :) And of course if you refer to Sony and not Sorny then ya :)

        • +5

It was a very I obscure Simpsons reference based off your request for a sandish brand USB. ;)

        • hey rep,

if you had any Horny cards instead of Sorny, Count me in…

  • Good deal thank you flingshot.

  • Flingshot, I just sent you guys an email :)

  • :( no more 16GB USB3 Sticks. and 64GB is too much for me. please bring back the 32GB!

  • will you guys be able to offer the cashback on http://flingshot.com.au/collections/computers-ultrabooks/pro… once it comes back in stock?

    • Unfortunately it is not coming back into stock. But we are going to extend the cash back until monday

  • Sold out 16gb =(

  • Missed out too.
Can you do a Sunburst Les Paul for the same price :-)

  • just bought 64GB, but it got my previous address,, i replied to your receipt hope you will send me the USB to the new address

  • Is there a difference in writing speed between the 1TB Touro PRO(7200RPM drive) and the Touro (normal and cheaper one)?

    • +1

The Touro Pro should perform better than the MX3 Touro. Although the USB3 connection would probably hinder any extra performance.

Another key difference is that the Pro model is using a 9.5mm drive where as the MX3 is using a thicker 12.5mm drive.

Other differences include build, warranty and backup software.

  • I previously bought one of the 16gb lexar's from these guys - pretty damn happy with it so far.

  • just bought a 64gb one :)

  • just missed out. sold out.

  • I wish I lost mine now… at this price it's a steal :(

    • +2

Haha now that is great ozb logic!

      • Are you planning any deals soon including the Synology DS413?

  • I ordered 3 of the other USB 3.0's when they were on special! (Should have waited and would have got 64gb for almost the same price as I got 2 16gb and a 32gb)

What I wanted to add though is the customer service is top notch, absolutely flooded them with emails (About the $88 SSD but at the same time I ordered the USB's) and they always answered quickly and not once did it seem like I was a chore (& I was!!)

I am grabbing 3 of these as the 32gb and 16gb's I grabbed earlier are really quick and excellent quality so can only recommend them highly. Grab them you will be very happy you did (Just to confirm I don't work for Flingshot at all, I just like a company that does things right)

    • Thanks for the feedback!

  • Bahh got purple. Regardless, thanks for the deal.

    • Colours are not random.

      Green = 64
      Orange = 32
      Purple = 16
      Blue = 8

    • They were all purple, the sizes are colour coded as per lostn's comment.
