How is end-of-lease rent calculated?

Hi everyone

I was wondering how rent is calculated when you stay a bit longer than the lease. I'd appreciate any advice or experience that anyone has to share.

Thanks

  • You generally just keep paying the same weekly rent until you leave. You can give them notice of your intended date of leaving or the landlord can give you notice too. Usually the notice period is 4 weeks but could depend on your lease.

    • if you leave midweek then you only have to pay until the day you were there. is that what you mean?

  • Hello

Many thanks for your replies. I pay rent by calendar month. My lease was up on 31 Jan, then I stayed for 31 days after that, including 28 days in February and 3 days in March. For those 31 days, I was asked to pay rent as follows:
28 days in February: full calendar month amount
3 days in March: 3 x daily rate, and daily rate was computed from yearly rate (monthly x 12/ 365)

Now moved out but still disputing rent calculations with real estate agent. I feel I overpaid for Feb. I was wondering if anyone has any experience which they could share with me.

    Thanks

    • 1 month = 4 weeks = 28 days. it doesnt usually go on the calendar month. you have to consider is it worth the hassle of fighting?
