  hallo ,

  3 days,budget below $200 a day, room type studio or 1 bedroom, hotel or motel whichever cheaper, traveling with my son.

  have you tried wotif.com? since your budget <200/day have a look at the wotif mystery deal see if there's any vacancy for your stay period in Sydney CBD. The hotels featured in the mystery deals are usually 5star equivalent hotels.

  We stayed at the Ibis. Can walk to everything. Very reasonable. Booked through Hotel.com

  Could sleep on a ferry for the cost of an all day ticket (about $22 each) - great views of the opera house, harbour bridge & lots of other places ;-)

  You could try Park Regis. The location is 2 minutes walking from Townhall station and within walking distance to Darling harbour. The room is a bit small but I think the room rates are reasonable (around $150 a night).

  bought 2 accor advantage plus membership in indonesia for around $200 each which comes with 2 free night each.
  So 4 free nights for $400.
  Went to Sofitel Sydney Wentworth (near Opera House) for 2 night and Novotel Sydney Darling Harbour for 2 nights :)

  As cheap as it can be. Although you have to book online few months ahead to use that free certificate.

  Although you do get the most basic room.
