Need a phone for 6-8 months - 2nd hand decent Android or iPhone or a new one?

My wife currently has an iphone 4s provided by her contract, and when her contract renews in 6-8 months (in which she receives the newest phone available) she will give it to me. Should I just buy a 2nd hand android or iphone 4 or 4s and use my existing sim card (prepaid) or should I just start a new contract?

P.S. I need an android or iphone due to the apps which I use as part of my work.

6-8 month is quite a long time. I'd just get a new phone and just sell you wife's iphone 4s when she gets a new phone.

  • buy a new one, sell one of them on facebook/eby/gumtree when your finished. or look on facebook/ebay/gumtree you might see a second hand one you like

  • What carrier are you with? Coles currently has the huawei Y201 for around $50. It's locked to Telstra, but there's a thread in this same forum whereby it can be unlocked for $5.

Incidentally, most carriers will waive the final 3 months of a contract if you're upgrading.

Why do you want to go on a contract? They're usually 24 months and don't provide much more over something like Vaya/Liveconnected for $11 a month (where you can leave whenever you like).

Unless it includes something that you definitely need like international calls but I doubt your current prepaid SIM includes those.

Since you need it for work, I wouldn't recommend low end android phones, instead go for something at least comparable to a Galaxy S3. You could probably get it second hand - I don't see a problem with that.
