I've seen a 800 x 480 e-reader in action and I can tell you it's a major pain to read — the fonts are very pixelated and jaggy — the backlit nature of TFT screens also means the battery life will be fairly short for an e-reader.
And anything backlit is usually bad for e-reading — you want front lit screens.
If you're thinking of seriously reading ebooks — invest in a Kindle or a Kobo reader. The cheapest Kindles start from $99 and have much better resolutions (800 x 600), Wifi support and cloud Amazon storage.
