Spain Tour - Trafalgar Costsaver

Has anyone done a travel costsaver tour of spain? Does anyone have any suggestions on a cheap and good tour of spain that covers both barcelona and madrid?

We recently went on the Trafalgar Costsaver Europe tour which included a week in Spain and I was told by the tour director that we stayed in the same hotels as the Spain tour. I would do it again in a heart beat as the hotels were middle of the range but clean and the tour / tour director showed me glimpses of everything without having to wait in lines at a minimal price compared to the rest. The only thing is, budget for all the extra's as Costsaver stay about 20 mins out of town with nothing around and the only way to get in to see everything is to go on the extra tours or pay 20 or 30 Euros for a Taxi. If you were planning on getting out and doing a lot of the exploring yourself pay the extra and go on the normal Trafalgar tour or Globus as they stay in the heart of the towns in 4/5 star and you just walk out your door to explore. No Taxis needed. We went with Globus through UK after Costsaver Europe. All I can say is really worth the extra $$ as your not paying the extras. I hope our experiences help.

    • Thanks for the information. Just another question. I have been on tours (another company) where all the hotels were not so central and for the times when we did not do the optionals we were given the option of being dropped into town and being picked up at a certain time in line with the people doing the optionals. Does trafalgar not do this?

I haven't been on the Costsaver tours, although I have been on two of the full service, or as they market them, first class Trafalgar Tours. We decided to do the first class ones mainly because it generally includes more of the paid attractions, the meals are better, the hotels are better and the optional excursions are better.

I'm not sure what your budget is like but if you can stretch to a first class tour I'd personally recommend it. If you can book about six months in advance you usually get an extra 5% or so off the list price.

As for a tour of Madrid and Barcelona, personally I'd recommend that you do Barcelona on your own and do a tour that encompasses just Madrid and surroundings (most of those tours stretch out to Portugal as well). Barcelona is kind of far from Madrid and addds a lot of expense and time to the tour. Much easier if you take a few days in Barcelona on your own then get a cheap flight to Madrid and do the tour there.

Hope this has been helpful :)
