Teenage son (18) apprentice wants an iphone 5 he has had an iphone 3 in past and most recently was using my htc one x but now needs to get a new phone and is thinking of buying an iphone 5. Are there any deals around for the iphone? Or would you recommend another phone which is as good but cheaper? thanks

Unless there is some huge need to run iOS, the Nexus 4 is a much better option.
Like always check first on what HE wants before buying.
I've been using iphone for some time, now on iphone 5, but considering moving to something else when contract expires. Why is Nexus better?
I mainly like the iphone for the free apps, and the touchscreen interface. It's just so quick and very responsive, even compared to Samsung Galaxy S3 (which I have tried).
Haven't tried Nexus, but I'm very interested in the Google apps that are available, particularly Google Now. Kills Siri. I love google products, use gmail and googlemaps. Would love to try Google Now.
If you already have an iPhone 5 why get another phone? Unless there is specific you want, just switch to one of the many cheap phone plans.
I've been an apple devotee for years (imported an iPhone, have since had a iP3, iP4, now on iP4S; wife is in similar position… and we even have an iMac as our primary computer): I recommend going to Nexus 4 as well. I have an N7, and can't wait unitl my contract is over for the iP4S so I can jump ship! Friends at work have them, and love it!
Its essentially 90% of a Samasung Galaxy SIII, which many put on par or above an iP4S/iP5.

But you buy the Nexus 4 outright. Why not just buy it now and sell the 4S? You can just use the sim in the N4(N4 uses a microsim)
actually, i got an iphone 5 which I bought on december 2012. but rarely using it ( i can say its 100% new, only use for about 8hours for the past 3months ).
I prefer my current iphone 4S which is still running ios5.
the reason i dont use my ip5 because of the ios6. ( i rely so much on youtube and google maps, which is why i dodge ip5 ) i know it can be DL from itunes, but for me original on ios5 is the best.

The new Google Maps app is amazing for iOS6 you know, its even better than the Android one apparently. + Turn by turn nav.
