Smaller capacity (320Gb) but a better price ($119) here.. (Verbatim brand and USB powered so otherwise identical)
Price per Gb is slightly cheaper at Bing Lee, but fairly similar so not worth a negative

  • The 500Gb 2.5" SATA bare drives are arount twice the price of the 320Gbs Around $200 just for the bare drive, sometimes 320Gb is not enough i.e. my itunes library

    • Yeah, absolutely.. the exact reason why I didn't negative vote..
It's still a good price, but if 320Gb will suffice, you can save, $70..

  • I'm voting positive - this is a great price.

Bing Lee isn't much help to the majority of Australians who live outside NSW!

How's this compared to the 1TB Western Digital offered at Officeworks for $177 at http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/9414 that's rapidly turning into a tech support post now?

    • Well the 1Tb would be a 3.5" drive for starters..
So the 1Tb is not as portable and would need a power adapter.
This drive is a 2.5" drive that is powered by the USB.. ie data and power come through the one USB cable.

Whether this will work on a DVD player will depend on the capabilities of the DVD player.
I'm guessing the problem with the 1Tb drive is that the DVD player cannot address a drive of such capacity.
I wouldn't be surprised if the DVD player can only address 32Gb (I think that's the magic figure).
Those USB DVD players are ideally for plugging in a usb stick drive.

  • good price, good deal… as is the bing lee one…

  • Too bad there's no Bing Lee in Melb. Would OfficeWorks in Melb match Bing Lee price for the 320GB??

    • officeworks dont sell the verbatim…. have seen it before at the north sydney officeworks, but verbatim drives no longer on the website..

  • Nice price, elsewhere selling more than $220 for same drive.

  • I have one of the 1Tb 3.5' $177 from OJ but its hardly portable, wont fit in my pocket and requires a powerpoint, as a result it will never leave my desk apart from the odd lan. but my laptop and for work a 2.5" is what I need, my 120 2.5" is chock solid full. I was just gunna buy a 500Gb and upgrade my current 2.5" external but this is cheaper

  • Clicked on the link today and there was no offer at $189.

    • Yeah, price has been bumped to $226…correction that's the GST Ex price. it's $249 now (GST incl)!!

      • I still see it $189 (ex GST $171.82)

        • Price has changed back to the $189 price for me now.. Must've been a glitch.
Definitely wasn't a caching issue becasue I saw the $189 price yesterday..
