New Qantas Cash Card - earn FF points using a pre paid debit Mastercard

Just found an interesting article about a new card that Qantas are releasing themselves. There isn't a lot of detail yet but it's interesting that you can now earn FF points using a debit card. Normally this is only available on credit cards and they usually have an annual fee.

  • Interesting to see if this will attract any other fees. I also wonder how the finished product will compare to 28 degrees. Thanks donga100.

Looks interesting for people that don't want credit/debit cards although I feel it will have a very crappy FF point earn rate.

So just how many frequent flyer points will you earn per dollar spent on the card – and what about those assorted fees for loading the card and pulling cash from an overseas ATM?

That's yet to be revealed, with Grant saying that the earn rate plus details on fees would come closer to the Qantas Cash card's launch in the third quarter of the year.

  • Would have to be exchange rate of less than 2% and no less than my plat. CC earn of 1.5 points per dollar spent.

  • So… I just received an email offering me to join in, and searching the net I found this old thread.

    I'm still unclear on:
    - Fees (annual and others)
    - What will the exchange rate be
    - How many frequent flyer points will you earn per dollar spent

This could potentially allow us to move away from Woolies Everyday Rewards CC\28 Degrees combo that we're using as I would prefer using a debit card (or a prepaid debit card in this case) - but only if the terms are right!

Also wondering if applying for the new card would affect our credit history etc. (for taking a mortgage)? As it is not a credit card I'm assuming not?

    Other thoughts?

As a "debit" card fees will be unlikely. Maybe wrong, but not many "debit" cards charge a fee.

There is already the Citibank plus account's card, which many here think is as good with exchange and fees, as the 28 degrees card but is a debit card, which is what you say you prefer.

  • Heard about this from work today. I believe the card even allow you to "lock" today exchange rate to available currency for future use.
