  • My local Aldi has a external 320GB Medion 2.5" USB HDD on sale for $99. I didn't realise it, but comparing to this deal, that Aldi-one would be excellent, I guess?

    • Is it this one? http://aldi.com.au/au/html/offers/2867_6549.htm#

Still says $129. Too bad my local aldi doesn't have much electronics so I can't check.

    • This is an internal drive, so no.

      • Take the drive out of the casing and you've got yourself an internal drive.

        • But you probably won't have a Seagate drive.

          • @zhenjie: Yes, it seems to be that one linked earlier. Most likely true that it's not a Seagate, so different (probably worse) quality. But still a good price considering that you get the external case too. I'm fortunate in living in a small rural town where nobody else seems to be interested about the electronics in Aldi, so they almost always end up being discounted.

          • @zhenjie: True.

          • @zhenjie: For what it's worth, Maxtor are owned by Seagate. Doesn't mean they're the same quality drives, but I'm sure they're more or less the same these days. The MTBF on most consumer drives is very similar. With that said, I would still choose the Seagate internal as it probably has that extra warranty (5 years) - the external Maxtor is likely 1

  • The price is OK- not the greatest.
Might be good to chuck into a PS3 so you quadripple your storage.
I like Seagates 7200RPM 16MB cache drives and for $25-$30 more would porbably go that route.
Seagate seem to have the cheapest 2.5" drives about 20% cheaper than Western Digital.
    Whats the quality like?

  • I have had a bad run with Seagate hard drives. Out of all the (painful) hard drive failures I've experienced, 80% were Seagate drives.

  • They should have offered a bundle on this with the astone caddy they also have on sale.
Very tempting … especially if they did the combo with free (or discounted) postage.

    • we do have an Astone Enclosure right next to it on our home page going for $19.95 - http://www.mwave.com.au/newAU/mwaveAU/productdetail.asp?sku=…

But this one have very low stock atm so If you want it have to be quick.

    • Incredible that yesterday's Catch of the Day (320Gb 2.5" WD Drive in a Phillips USB2, bus powered caddy for $119 +$10 shipping) was voted down, yet this deal, coming in at a very similar price gets the thumbs up.
I'm stunned by the bias against COTD, apparently all due to the Birthday fiasco..
(I posted the COTD on Ozbargain yesterday)

      • Yeah, the COTD fiasco was pretty major.

I would liken it to the Myer boxing day sale, but they only let 10 people in. everyone else is standing outside.

You can see why there might not be much good will coming from that…

        • +1

Except for the fact that it was a foregone conclusion that a site offering half price Wii's would be taken down by traffic.
Anyone could have told you that..
Sure, COTD were idiots for promoting those prices, but I don't understand the "hatred" that lingers.. Build a bridge people, the current sentiment is what I'd expect toward a rip-off scammer!

          • @ESEMCE: Yeah I agree somewhat. I think it was a poor move not having adequate server capacity but at the same time stock was always going to be limited. So many people back then seemed to think they were a sure shot to get a Cheap Wii when that was never going to be the case.
