Best portable air conditioning?

Need a new portable air con. My mum said she saw an ad on TV for some new air con that uses a new technology but she can't remember the name. Has anyone happen to see it? Thanks.

  • I would recommend De'Longhi - haven't had any trouble with my 2 year old portable silent inverter.

  • Cannot recommend enough Domain portable AC's. They are extremely powerful, are reverse cycle (so do both heating and cooling) and are quite efficent (they use the moisture from the air to help cool the coil)

I got mine from the website and have been extremely happy with it.

  • Dimplex portable ACs use inverter technology too, but they are a bit pricey. productreview.com.au does not have any good reviews about delonghi portable ACs (have a look for yourself). If you want to go evaporative to save on the power bill and you live in Melbourne where the weather is dry, they perhaps check out the convair branded airconditioners. It was 36 degs today, the machine kept a large room cool at 25 degrees. =D

  • Be 100% sure that's what you want. After reading another recent thread here, I decided to give them a second chance. We bought an expensive Dimplex from the Good Guys. But after several hours it became obvious it was useless. It was in a small 4x3m room with a low ceiling. Sitting right in front it we were cooler - while the rest of the room was still an oven and the sweat ran down our backs. We took it back and bought a ~$550 window rattler. The same room was like a freezer in about 30 minutes.

  • It also depends on whether you're trying to escape humidity or dry heat.
