  • what would be better for a windows/games drive this or samsung 840 250gb (non pro) not sure how much the write speed effects things for an OS/gaming drive. The 840 has a fair bit higher read speed.

As far as I'm aware the most important thing for games is read speed, the only times the write speed would come into play are when you first install the game (A couple minutes more to install doesn't really matter) and when the game is saving your progress in something (The size of the saves is quite small so again doesn't really matter).

For OS it depends really on what your going to be using the drive for, if your using as a scratch drive or something similar for programs (Photoshop etc etc) then write speed would be fairly important however from a general overall perspective the write speed doesn't really matter after the initial install.

When comparing SSD's I tend to look at the access times and not the read/write speeds.

I bought one of these sandisk SSD's a while ago, and i was doing similar research. Basically, the conclusion i read in reviews is, the difference is largely academic, you won't notice a large change between the sandisk or samsung ones. The more useful numbers are the small file read (read is particularly big for boot speed) and write speeds, and access times but at this level, it's not going to reflect a major observable difference between the two.

The standard 840 is a better drive all over than the Kingston.

  • Very tempted but I just bought a Nexus 4, perhaps next pay if its still around.
