Iceland - 50% + off EVERYTHING sale

Moved to Forum: (Joke Post) Original Link

The nation of Iceland is currently having a 50%+ off EVERYTHING (except imported goods) currency devaluation sale.

Prior to the GFC (before December 2007), 1 AUD was buying 54 Icelandic Kroner and was buying as little as 44 Kroner.

1 AUD will currently buy you 133.5 Icelandic Kroner. It has gone from an expensive country to one very affordable to visit.

  • So, any deals ?
do they have Amazon Iceland ?
I do not mind buying a few more lenses for Pentax.

    • They probably do but shipping may take awhale. Goods do come well sealed though.

  • +1

It was cheaper last month no deal…

    • Also, their economy is essentially fisheries and smelters, so unless you really love fish, pretty much every other consumer good is an import.

  • Someone moved this to the jokes forum and whilst it is funny it's also an ACTUAL bargain. A lot of Brits are visiting Iceland now because it's one of very few currencies that have gone down more than the pound.

This is because Iceland is a free market, unlike the US:

  • I was going to go from London when it was supposedly "cheap" 2 years ago but then realised it's still an expensive option compared to most of Europe. Even though easyjet started flying there in 2012 you still pay slightly higher prices compared to the usual flying rates (e.g. same or less to fly even outside Europe i.e. 5 hours to Morocco from London, but for what we're used to paying for 3 hr flights it's still cheap.) Budget accommodation has gone down from above Norwegian prices to German prices, which may be where you'll save the most. Everything else is like paying in Australia, and if you haven't left overseas in the last 10 years, that's EXPENSIVE :) Food (except maybe whale) and long-distance transport cost real money there so budget backpackers are screwed. But if you have the money to rent a car for a few weeks and it's on your bucket list, I guess now would be a good time to go.

    • According to Numbeo.com average prices are currently 26% higher in Sydney than Reykjavik, Iceland. Reykjavik is cheaper than most of western europe and especially Scandanavia, but it is far more expensive than eastern europe.
