  • 5 pounds of protein for $120?
This is OzBargain, Vitaminking sells 5pounds of ON Gold Standard whey for $85, $10 shipping.
Not to mention ON Gold Standard has 24g of protein per serve while yours has 20g (for the proto, 18g for ultraburn).
    O_O

    • +1

In their defense, the Proto Whey is allegedly 100% hydrolised, still a bit exy though. Not sure if the Pept-1's price is justified though.

      • Hi pyr0maniac. Thanks for you comment. The pept-1 is actually the same price as the proto whey because it has the same Proto Whey micro peptides technology as well as thermogenics to support fat loss and also claims enhanced mental focus too.

Just a reminder to all that if you compare this offer to any other Australian website you will see it is value for these TWO particular products.

Thanks again pyr0maniac for you comment!

      • True, you can still get ON Hydro from our lovely vitacost for around 10% cheaper using fun methods, and you don't have to buy in bulk ;)
ON Hydro has higher protein content per serve. While the product offered does have more serves, the net amount of protein from ON Hydro is a bit higher.
On a 2lb basis, ON Hydro has 685.7g of protein, Proto has 520g of protein.
For Australian prices this is pretty much on-par with Vitacost (if you count GST)

Sorry about my previous comment - didn't realise it was hydrowhey.

        • No problems we welcome feedback, criticisms etc…not only here, but on our website as well. Thanks

  • Hi cwongtech. Thanks for your comment! We understand your observation, however Proto Whey is a high quality, hydrolyzed whey protein with a more rapid and higher absorption rate into the bodies cells due to smaller peptides. If you look anywhere online you will find these two products selling from $129.95 upwards.

As a comparison to your findings, we also sell Giant Sports Delicious Protein, 5 pounds for $79.95, with $7.95 Shipping and 27g of protein. Not all protein is the same and like anything you get what you pay for. :)

This is a bargain price for UltraBurn and Proto Whey! We guarantee this as we are definitely not advertising it at this price to make money.

Let us know if you find a better price in Australia for any of these two products.

    Thanks again

yes long post but good read if u willing to save money

this pretty much summaries all arguments abt hydrolysed vs regular whey

The short answer: hydrolyzed protein loses on every count.

The long answer: People somehow got fixated on the idea that hydrolyzed whey would absorb faster than either isolates or concentrates, and they are willing to pay double for this supposed benefit. Is it twice as effective? Safer? More nutritious? First, let’s consider how much quicker hydrolysates are digested. One study compared the digestion speed of whey and casein to their respective hydrolysates and the simple fact is that there was no significant difference in digestion speed. Quoting from the results:
The rate of gastric emptying for all solutions was found to fit an exponential pattern (r=0.92–1).Solutions were emptied at similar rates, with half-times of (mean ± S.E.M.) 21.4±1.3, 19.3±2.2, 18.0±2.5 and 19.4±2.8 min,for the whey hydrolysate, casein hydrolysate, casein and whey protein, respectively.
Basically, there was no real difference (maybe a couple of minutes faster for the hydrolysates) between whey isolate and its hydrolysate and casein and its hydrolysate.

Lyle McDonald’s translation: “There is no advantage to whey or casein hydrolysates in terms of digestion speed. None. Well, unless you think paying three times the price and accepting an often bitter taste is an advantage."

Another study comparing whey protein hydrolysate (WPH) with whey protein isolate (WPI) found that WPH was absorbed more slowly, and its levels in the blood also declined more rapidly, resulting in a much weaker response curve. Leucine and the rest of the BCAAs were significantly better absorbed from WPI than WPH. The researchers concluded that total amino acid availability of WPI was superior to WPH. (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18608553)

Lyle McDonald’s translation: “Not only are hydrolysates not superior to intact protein in terms of providing amino acids to skeletal muscle, they are distinctly inferior. Their fast digestion speed leads to greater digestive losses, more oxidation via deamination and provides less amino acids to skeletal muscle. That’s on top of tasting like vomit. Or at least making you want to.”

There is emerging data that slower digesting proteins, or a mix of slow and fast are superior to fast proteins by themselves. A study comparing whey to total milk protein showed that whey’s amino acid delivery was too transient, and underwent rapid deamination during the postprandial period. The authors concluded that milk proteins had the best nutritional quality, which suggested a synergistic effect between its casein and whey.

Bottom line: Slow or slow/fast proteins appear to be superior to fast proteins post-workout. There is no proven benefit to hydrolysates in terms of digestion speed (whey hydrolysate digests at the same speed as straight whey), and hydrolysates are simply more expensive and taste worse.

Lyle McDonald’s final translation: “The push for hydrolysates is just another big scam.”

Finally, you should know that your body does not instantly recover following training, and your post-workout protein shake means nothing if you're failing to meet your daily protein requirements. Compared to hitting your macro targets for the day, the timing of specific nutrients around the training session will make little measurable difference. Many people don't realize is that there's no "magic anabolic window" that's only open for a short period of time after a workout, because the receptivity of muscle to protein dosing persists for at least 24 hours: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21289204

      • Hi terahammer. Yes indeed a long post, but was an interesting read. Thanks for posting.

      • So all of the above states that combining milk with this synthesized stuff is the best solution rather than just consuming the hydrolysate-based product?

I didn't realize there would be so much learning involved when trying to get buff.

  • Aw, I misread this as 5kg, that would have been a good bargain.

    • Hi Nicky6 sorry your disappointed. Unfortunately the largest size that their distributed in Australia is 5 pound (2.275kg). But again for these products this offer is cheaper than anywhere else in Australia.

  • Is it Dank approved?

    • haha very funny. :)

  • Here is my OzB (cheap ass) tip :

Most people (myself included) will get better results cleaning up the rest of their diets than buying higher quality protein.

Hi h4lcyon. I Completely agree, however the problem is that most people I speak to state they don't have the time to prepare, pack and eat meals throughout the day, which is why supplements are the alternative, quick fix! I take supplements myself, but also opt to live a healthier life style and cook, prepare and pack my meals for each and every day. Thanks for your comment mate.

      • Hang on, people don't have time to eat meals during the day? That's the problem right there :)

        • EDIT eat meals every 3 hours or so throughout the day. :)

  • Ordered! Great timing. Was coming to the end of my 10 pound tub(pity that size is no longer available). Even with shipping it still was cheaper than anywhere else I could find.

    • Hi Goonos. Thanks for your order and feedback. Your item is already packed and awaiting courier collection. Yes, it's unfortunate 10 pound is no longer available in Australia.

      Thanks again for your business.

  • +1 for customer service

      Thanks

  • But I just bought MAX's super whey 4Kg for $130 which is about $32/KG. this product is about $52/KG. Max's is Australian brand, may be thats why cheaper. you can also buy 8KG super whey.

  • +1

Hi Sanatorium. Yes MAX's is an Australian based brand, which can make a difference. Especially as they most likely deal directly to retailers or even the customer rather than using an Australian based distributor like many international companies would do.

One tip, never compare supplements by their cost per kilo as serving sizes vary drastically, which can make all the difference.

A good calculation to use is to get the 'cost per serving'. There may be an easier method, but an example is:

    1. Get the 'netweight' (in grams) and divide it by the product 'serving size' (in grams). This will equal the amount of 'servings per container'.
    2. Then divide the 'price' of the product by the 'servings per container' you calculated above.

This will equal your 'cost per serving'.

For our customers convenience. Our store provides the cost per serving based on the products current display price, as well as product expiry dates, serving sizes and nutritional information. We believe this information can help customers decide, which products are better value. :)

    Cheers

  • Good tip, will try and let u guys know.

  • Thanks. Bought one.
