Officeworks also have the 500GB for $48 if you want something smaller:
http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Dat…not bad
Better off getting this http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/93659
At least the drive probably won't die after a couple of years.
(for those who came in late: Seagate drive reliability has fallen through the floor)I used to only by Western Digital, and guess what? I only had Western Digital drives failing. So then I started buying only Seagate and guess what? No more Western Digital drives failing… but an increase in Seagate drives failing. I have over all had a near equal number of Seagate and Western Digital drives failing, with slightly more in Western Digitals only because I have more of them. Perhaps it's time for me to check out some Hitachi action?
Anyway here's some other random internet peoples opinions
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/245312-32-seagate-western-…Mechanical drives are continuously dying. They are mechanical so they wear out. 2-3 years and it might not be a bad idea to look at replacing it. Portable drives even more so.
I've got a mix, latest to go was a 750gb WD Passport after 12mths.
I have a Maxtor 540mb (yes mb) that still works
These things don't bounce people!
The packaging states "3 Year limited warranty" but that won't help your precious data if you don't do backups.
Sydney CBD OW on Clarence St. declined to price match noting the offer is online and had expired at lunchtime if you try to click through to buy however the store on Hunter St. was not so thorough/picky and honoured their policy for $75.05.
So this offer should probably be marked as expired though it may still be useful but only for price matching :-)
Should have been marked expired 4 hours ago… It was out of stock soon after it was posted.
I just bought one, price matched at Osborne Park, WA
Just got the 500gb one and looks like a nice piece of kit.
Found that the drive repeatedly disconnects and immediately reconnects interrupting data transfer, triggering USB detection during continuous writing. Desktop drive connected to same USB 3.0 port performing the same operation has no problem. Maybe the problem is the cable or maybe something else but I do not want to diagnose further so I returned it 10 days after purchase with original packaging and receipt to Officeworks who accepted it without much trouble. Thanks.
