  • the 50% off deal is more expensive then last weeks $39 deal to most destinations. Hopefully Tiger will sell tickets at $10 like they did in Jan or Feb last yr

    • totally agree - the flight I saw for $39 last night were $47.50 with "Half Price" attached to it!

But I feel lucky that I did not book last night, given some of the experiences described below and specially I was going to make a day trip and come back using 2 airlines.

I recently flew with tiger and I was disgusted at their service.

Paid $110 for Canberra to Melbourne return tiger tickets. True cost was over $563 (Yes five hundred and sixty-three dollars!). Tiger airways changed both flight times and didn’t notify me. I would not fly tiger airways ever again, even if the hostesses were naked, willing and it was my bucks night.

I booked Melbourne to Canberra flights which were to depart at at 7:00am in the morning. Before the flight, they were rescheduled to 5:30pm which meant one wasted day of my holidays in Melbourne. For my Melbourne to Canberra return flight, which was due to leave at 5:00pm, I turned up at the airport to go home they said my flight was cancelled. Tiger airways did not notify me in advance of my cancelled flight. Told me their were no other flights to Canberra that night. Refused to put me on a flight with another airline. Refused to let me sleep in their airport terminal as it was closing for the night. Told me I would have to sleep in another airlines terminal 10 minutes walk up the road or on the street or book a hotel for the night. Refused to compensate me for additional cost of a hotel or getting me on a flight with another airline. I spoke and complained to the fool on the front desk of the terminal, the fools bimbo manager, and the fools bimbo manager’s manager. Then I spoke to the call center. Not once did anyone I ever dealt with say the word “sorry”.

I made them reschedule my flight to the next morning, a $40 taxi ride back to the city to the cheapest Hotel I could find at $230 due to last minute rates! Another $40 taxi ride back to the airport in the morning to twiddle my thumbs for another delayed tiger airways flight. I finally get home to Canberra and start racing off in my car to a late appointment only to be pulled over by the police to issue me with a $143 speeding fine. Total cost of this misfortune so far $563 and that doesn’t include the bottle of scotch and blood pressure pills that I needed to cure my rage.

I have read so many articles in the newspaper about tigers lack of customer service and poor flight records. One article I read said that tiger has a delayed/cancelled flight rate of more than 1 in 5 or 20%. What a poor record, I will never fly tiger again.

ACCC needs to act now and put tiger airways out of business. I am sick of the stories I hear about the way tiger airways bait consumers into bookings flights with them and then when they realize they don’t have enough bookings to make the flight commercially viable, they cancel the flight at the last minute citing “operational” difficulties.

Tiger airways needs to wake up and get their act together.

Sorry to hear that. I wouldn't go with Tiger airways. Thanks, joeb3.

  • can you get jet star to beat it by 10%

    http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/travel-info/travel-services/pri…

just a bit better than tiger, and i always pay the extra $15 straight away to get the exit row seats.

    • JetStar? it's more bad! I travelled with them twice (Mel <->Syd return ticket ) and I was unable return to Melbourne twice at Sydney due to cancellation and bad service. it cost me much more than ticket itself! They do not apologizes for their mistake and even say “your ticket is $49 only you cannot expect more service!” I will never try another luck with JetStar. Be careful bargain airline.

  • On the contrary I have had nothing but great service from tiger…

For Adelaide to Melbourne our return flight was brought forward several hours. I was notified straight away via email, I called up the call centre and they happily let me change my flights to a different flight and did not charge any 'flight-change' fee.

Also we did not pay extra for assigned seating so expected the three of us would be scattered over the plane. When we checked in to depart they offered us to sit togethor! On the way back they assigned us togethor too!

In-flight service was also very good, pricing was quite reasonable (expected it to be a bit higher) and hot chocolate tasted pretty good!

Will definately be flying Tiger Airways wherever they provide a great deal.

One thing worth noticing is when you book, Tiger also ask you to check your flights a few days prior to departure..

  • I flew Tiger international.
The flights were good, but trying to change bookings with their call centre is consistently difficult.
The website can be a pain too. Wasted a lot of time between web and call-centre.

  • Tiger and JetStar have both been good for me. Flew Melbourne to Canberra last year for a total of $39.80 return and there were no troubles at all. Although i did almost miss the flight because i didn't realise they're Melbourne terminal is not with the others. Also flew to Gold Coast last year with JetStar for $104 return and that was great too.
Not much to say about their in flight service, ie. if you want food then you order and pay for it otherwise you just sit there, but this is to be expected given the cheap flights.

I used to pay about $500-$600 for a return ticket to Sydney about 5yrs ago. Those were the days :)

  • Flew PER-MEL, MEL-ADL, ADL-MEL, MEL-PER all for $199 last year, go exit row seats withoug paying (just asked) check in staff seemed alot more interested than the qantas people and so did the cabin crew, would definitely fly TT again.

  • I flew with budget airlines (Tiger, Jetstar, Air Asia, Valuair) and well known airlines (Singapore, Qantas, etc). All I can say is…you get what you paid for. But so far, TT and JetStar services are considerably good.

There had been some changes with our flight Canberra-Melbourne but we were notified by email. Have you check your email regarding change of schedules? In the email, you will be asked to clicked the link if you accept the change or contact call centre if you want to cancel your flight.

  • I've also traveled with Tiger a few times (back and forth between Melbourne and Alice Springs, and between Melbourne and Perth a few times), and have had no troubles. We got some of those great $10 fares way back, and found that the service was fine, found the seats more comfortable than the last domestic qantas flight I took.

WHERE ARE $17.49 Fares?. I was on the internet at 12.01am on Thursday 8th Jan, and I saw this new sale, and I searched all dates for MEL-CBR-MEL and there was not a single $17.49 fare. $27.45 was the best I could find.

Also, in the herald sun that day they advertise $34 fares to OOL/MKY/ROK and even $69 to PER. But they are not to be found anywhere!!!

I would love to get some of those cheap Canberra fares, but why have they advertised these fares, and have NONE of them available. They are not sold out, they were not even there to begin with.

  • I was browsing the site early this week and saw flights ADL -> ALICE and ALICE -> ADL for $39.95. I spoke to the girlfriend about visiting a friend up there, we booked a hotel and then went to book our flights. They jumped to $179.95! Also the front page mentions 50% off ADL -> ALICE, it hasnt adjusted the price of the flights, but even if this was applied to their 'standard, non internet rate' of $184.95 I would still be paying $92.50 per flight segment, which is more than a 100% price hike on the rate from a few hours previous! Not to mention the $5 card surcharge per person, per flight segment, bring the total up to $100 each way, IF I can even get access to this so called 50% off price. AAAAARGGGH! Having said that, I have used Tiger many times before for ADL -> MEL and have had no issues with them. The seats are tiny though, so for anyone as tall as me (6"1) I would recommend either booking an exit lane seat, or arriving EXTREMELY early and requesting it, which they will do if hasnt already been allocated.
