    • Reading a review @ tft central and they say this: The Dell U2713HM utilises an LG.Display LM270WQ1-SLB2 AH-IPS panel which is capable of producing 16.7 million colours with a true 8-bit colour depth.
      Source: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2713hm.htm
      Confused now.

    • +10

      Incorrect.

While the U2412M is a 6-bit eIPS display, the U2713HM is an 8-bit AH-IPS display and colour quality is very good.

The higher end panels like the U2711 are also 8-bit panels, but simulate "10-bit" through AFRC. (similar to how 6-bit panels simulate 8-bit.)

The U2713HM is also pre-calibrated and comes with a calibration report, does 100% sRGB, and 79% AdobeRGB, which is pretty much the max for standard LED backlit monitors.

Source: People who actually used & tested the display as opposed to someone generalising about "M"s.

    • So I hear that for photo editing you really want to fork out that extra bit of cash for the better monitor, helps with monitor calibration and accuracy apparently. But what is the response time on these monitors like? Can this still be a monitor to play FPS games? OR is the response time too slow and you'll end up with ghosting?

      • -6

read the tftcentral review - they are the best around for those opinions.
generally only pro level gamers would notice anyway - they are generally under 10ms response

      • -3

        .

      • people say they game without noticing difference. in general people appreciate accurate colors more than fluid motion for some reason. at the end of the day its moving images, its up to you to decide which part is more important. for a gamer though, the 2412m has one of the lowest latency and that most pro gamers say is more important than anything else.

      Professional gaming…
      Since when it's a profession?

    • Disagree.

I chose the U2713HM as I understood the colour accuracy was more related to colours in the cyan, magenta range which doesn't affect me.

This monitor is most definitely a step up from my previous TN and will work for the average photographer.

If a larger colour range is required, go for the U2711 or the 30".

  • +1

Didn't know I needed a 27" monitor until now, thanks OP.

  • is it 2 years yet? those 2412?

  • +6

Good deal but it's still the same $279 price after all these years…

    • cheaper if you factor in inflation.

I bought the same monitor for the same price in May last year.

      • +5

Not in the technological sense though. If you bought it for $279 last year it should be expected to be cheaper this year.

    • True but feels good to own one and see it still be worth the same amount years later :) not like bloody SSD's

    • Not quite - the 2713HM is LED not CCFL like the older ones.
There's a bit of debate about which is better.

  • Guys, for the price, is this the best 27" screen going around? Or am I better spending my money on another screen?

    • +2

Nothing is better for this price lol

      • +2

unless you go korean made, for $350 you can get panels similar to the U2711. But thats a different story.

  • 27" supports usb3.0
    Nice! A bonus usb3.0 hub

  • But I'm not a fan of the criss-cross pattern on the 27", that would annoy me as a designer.

  • got this last year - excellent monitor

  • This is a really nice monitor, but do have to say that the build quality and quality control isn't there.

The first screen I received had bad image retention issues, but DELL's exchange service is pretty great. Was hassle free.

  • I have 2 of these from the last deal…

Amazing monitors but had to extend my desk abit to fit them both on..

They are also 16:9 Aspect so a great display size for gaming :D

    • +1

      you mean 16:10?

  • Got the 27", best purchase of the year.

    • The year has just started, lol. I bet you'll buy more and more

  • should i get it or wait till it finds its way on Dell Outlet where its even more cheaper? also, OP do both deals end on the same day?

    • Yes they both expire 14th of February.

  • awesome bargain!
ozbargain, have I told you lately that i love you?!?!

  • Hunting this one down for a while, great price!

  • have been waiting for a little while for these to come on special again, just bought one

  • what about this Dell S2740L 27 Inch IPS Monitor for $389 @ eStore? (it was $369 last night though in my email.. the cheapest price on staticice is also $389 from J&W & i-Tech) —> http://www.estore.com.au/product/del000115

    • The S2740 is a 1920 x 1080 monitor - a rubbish resolution for the size. This Ultrasharp is a 2560 x 1440.

      • yeah i totally agree.. just offering a cheaper IPS alternative that's all

  • bought one on last deal posted here. LOVE IT! buy one and you will not regret it.

  • delivery?

    • Free Delivery. Bought the 24" Pixel policy is (if anyone wants to know) exchange if one "bright" pixel or six "dark" pixels.

  • +3

Curious how the last few 'cut and paste deals' from Dell have been met with harsh criticism, and yet this one is receiving generally positive attention, despite being exactly the same.
    OzBargain, you fickle beast.

  • Why did I spend all my money in dec :(

  • Awesome, bit the bullet and got the 27" after looking at alternatives and reviews. Indeed best you can get at that price.

  • +1

    So, the 24" is 16:10 - yet the 27" is 16:9?

Are 24"+ 16:10 panels hard to find these days?

Sadly everything seems to be becoming 16:9 now..

  • Did anyone get a phone call from a Dell representative asking for verification details? This included giving an ABN. Is this normal?

    • +1

Very normal. But ABN is not required..

      • Okay thanks. Maybe ABN was asked because I chose a business address.

  • Ordered 11/02. Received the next day!! Wowee.

  • they confirmed to deliver it today and it never came -_-" not happy
