Just thought I'd relate a (seemingly rare) experience I had regarding Spreets (or any other group-buying site).
My wife bought a racing-car drive experience voucher for my birthday. I'm not going to name the company specifically because that's not the point of this post. You can probably work it out yourself. My mate's wife bought the same for him, so we were going to go together.
Anyway, tried to book, no luck - website being updated, Eastern Creek being renovated etc etc. I was told though that the vouchers would be honoured for a few months after the expiry in Oct 2012.
The website was finally updated, try to book again, find out that it's now only being offered in Goulbourn (about 2 hours out of Sydney). Fine, whatever, try to book again via email and fax, no reply.
Try calling, no reply or answer.
It's now September, and try booking again via email and fax, no answer.
Email them again before the voucher expiry and finally get an answer. They'll look into it. Am told that the company is under new management and will try to honour all vouchers.
After the vouchers had expired, spoke to the company again and am told that the previous management never received any booking for me before the expiry date so sorry.
I then lodged a refund request with Spreets, basically telling them the above and within 4 hours had received a reply stating the refund would be processed, no questions asked, no problems. A week later the money was refunded to my wife.
My friend received his refund too.
So maybe either Spreets has fixed up their refund policy or I was lucky. And there are some good results that come out of group-buying problems.
If this is a good result, I would hate to think what a bad result is.
