Samsung PS51E550 Series 5 51" 130cm Full HD 3D Plasma TV PS51E550 Price Drop to $737 Deliverd

110

Thought I'd share this on Ozbargain.
Bought this TV November last year for $760 delivered and because I have a habit of checking prices after I have already made my purchase (counter productive I know) noticed price drop to $737 including delivery.
Fantastic TV for the price and highly recommended by me.
BBB were great to deal with, tv was delivered exactly they said.
Comes with two pairs of 3D glasses as well.

  • Also purchased this in November from BBB, fantastic service, great TV for the price.

Great TV, best at this price point by far

  • How
Would this compare to the LG tv posted above this one ?

    • +1

So far from what I can tell, besides the 3cm difference, the LG comes with one pair of Active glasses, whilst the Samsung comes with two.

      • -2

LG has passive 3D glasses (cheap), Samsung has active 3D glasses ($$).

        • +2

To correct you, that LG plasma comes with Active 3D glasses not passive.

        • My bad, you are correct for this plasma TV.

        • +1

And the new active 3D glasses from Samsung are only worth about $30 or so a pair.
They're quite open and flimsy in design. They let in a lot of the surrounding light.
I'd love to get the Panasonic ones which wrap around a lot more… But worth $80 or more!!!

    • About 1 inch larger.

  • Not too fussed about the 3D glasses. More so just the picture quality and the power consumption.

Also seen this one on DSE:

      1366 x 768 on 50" ???

Even full HD makes your eyes go pixels at 50"

just an advise for all who is after LG or Sams deals,
this models are very glossy guys, you'd better check em in the shop before you buy,if this is a issue for you

Nothing a bit of 2000grit sandpaper can't fix.

      • +1

Tell us how you went with that.

  • Fux. Just bought this last weekend from TGG. Oh well, I only paid $30 more.

    • +4

Go back 2 tgg. They will give u a refund.

  • Not a huge discount, but already a very good value TV. I paid almost $850 for the previous model (D550 not E550) 18 months ago and am still very happy:

    • Image quality, especially colour, seem as good as an LED LCD that costs twice this
    • Plays most file formats from a USB stick or external HDD (MKV etc)
  • Hopefully the 51" E550 doesn't suffer as much of the same problems as their larger ones!
I've already had Samsung out for the excessive buzzing from mine (PS64E550), and am currently going through the motions with them!
From what the service guy said, and what I've read, they're very hit and miss on quality!
I couldn't recommend this model if you have sensitive hearing!!!

  • Got this in December- a few issues:
    - The one arm of the glasses snapped right off just from putting it on.
    - Can't program an autotune on the samsung EPG
    - The Freeview EPG seems to take forever to come up
    - The most annoying- remote range is only about 2.5m. Its the receiver not the transmitter. Tested with My Blu Ray remote as well- reaches the blu ray unit and works fine, same remote have to go closer to operate the TV. Anyone having this issue as well? Will call Samsung some day.

    • EPG is just ridiculous. Not only does it take forever to come up. I found that you have to physically stop on the individual channels every now and then for them to load up into the guide!!!
And yeah, glasses are very cheap and flimsy. But I've only used them a couple of times. Panasonic and Sony have also commited to this new Full HD 3D, so new models will also work with the Samsung TV!

      • I don't know if the free view runs off DVB or Internet. Will test it. Loads better than the Samsung one.
