Hitachi Touro 1TB 2.5" USB 3.0 for $84 at MSY

10

Got a 1TB 2.5" USB 3.0 HDD from MSY Auburn today for 84$. Was easily available over the counter (without pre-booking), but the 45 mins long queue at the store was boring. The drive is excellent, pretty compact (unlike the Seagate Expansion Portable Drives) and very good looking. Carries 3 yrs warranty. Assembled in China, Made in Thailand.
Couldn't find a compact 1TB 2.5" USB 3.0 HDD elsewhere below this price.

BTW they do have Visa Pay Wave but charge 2% extra for it. Still, ING Direct account holders should be delighted :-)

Good price but it is Hitachi.

I have nothing but good experiences with the 4 Hitachi drives I have.
But nothing is worth waiting in line for 45mins. Especially a drive.

  • I was aware of the Seagate 2TB and Buffalo 3TB offers, but wanted a compact "USB powered" pocket sized drive. 3 yrs warranty should be enough to give Hitachi a chance :-)

  • That's a pretty standard price for the Hitachi, hence why it is easily available. But I agree, it's a good price for a 1TB 2.5" USB 3.0 HDD

  • I agree with the queues at MSY, I've only done if once but they'd have to have something extraordinary for me to do it again…

This was available for the past two months for $75 shipped from Flingshot, but they've (finally) sold out now: http://flingshot.com.au/collections/sales-end-of-month-sello…

So this price is nothing to get excited about, particularly when you have to deal with MSY queues (what price do you value your time at?).

So the OP wasted 45mins standing in a queue…. Hahahaha

      • +3

no need to vote negative like that dude

        • Well it's not an ozbargain as the person above me has pointed out..

        • +2

Not sure why I deserve a neg either, when I was just pointing out that this is a pretty ordinary price.

        • Agreed

true, but neg votes like that can start drama like http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/92883

I guess, 84$ is still the lowest price currently and probably the cheapest 1TB 2.5" compact USB 3.0 drive in market. I think I needed one and this is the best I could find.

        • well OP cleared it levelled it out for you

        • Im moving on……

        • It wasn't neg votes that started that, it was a poor attitude from the rep posting the "deal"

        • ..

  • ""but the 45 mins long queue at the store was boring""
you must be new to MSY

    • Yup, first timer! ;-p

  • 15 Cents cheaper too for those who can't make it or don't want to waste their time.
    Only 4 left.

  • The only thing worse than waiting at MSY for something you want to be doing (shopping) is waiting at MSY for something you don't want to be doing (warranties etc).

Never had to wait more than 5 mins at Gold Coast MSY trick is to preorder online. N00bz

  • Has anyone got issues with windows 8 and these hitachi drives?

My 750gb Touro is incompatible with windows 8 as it seems its a common problem at the moment with these drives and Win8! Not sure if the 1Tb is using an updated USB controller or still the same a previous models though.

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-h…

Ill prob be cautious buying this brand if you are using windows 8 until there is a patch or fix for them.

  • Can this be taken apart for a sata internal drive ???

  • $76 at ShoppingSquare atm. Its on sale.

    • shipping charges extra @ shopping square! Approx 10$
