Looking for a good value laptop for my sales manager

Hi there
I need to buy a good quality portable and reliable laptop for my sales manager. He'll be on the road as well as in the office so needs to be portable.
who knows of any good deals going that I could tap into?
we're a startup business so every saving counts!

  • you really need something like the HP Elite or Lenovo T series

i wouldnt pee pee on most of the consumer grade crap you see on sale here

if your living depends on a reliable laptop would you trust a harvey norman $599 special? especially on the road

consumer grade laptops are just that… designed for an easy life on the sofa for people who dont mind wasting time on facebook

save $100 here, spend two weeks getting repaired, your choice

  • Question is does he need a cd/dvd/bd drive?

Otherwise Ultrabooks are the way to go, the nicest i have seen is the Lenovo X1 Carbon touch

I wouldnt buy the T series for myself, its not much good anymore. But then neither is Lenovo service.

Another tip if he is travelling get an onsite warranty, this way the repair is done where you are, as oppose to sending it back to the base and waiting a couple of days for it to get repaired.

    • found acer service abysmal for consumer PC

Acer is almost the worst in build quality and repair

to be fair, Acer Travelmates are fine and are used by gov.

          i dont mind them

          probably wouldnt pay for one

          lol no justification there.

If anything you made it sound worse ;)

    Lenovo sale end today.

I have worked with sales managers and most of them do not really need anything that powerful. Most important features are email, presentations, word processing, spreadsheets, to look professional infront of clients and database access. Database access is the hardest depending on what type of database your organisation uses. If you use something web based like salesforce then it is easy, if the database is located in the office and protected by your IT department, then you learn to you live without it on the road and just sync required contacts to your email address book or have someone in the office to call. Nothing really requiring strong processing power.

  • Get the Lenovo X or T series, they are built like a tank, so road-warriors will not feel guilt tossing it about.

What ever you get make sure you install a soilid state hard drive as normal laptop hard drives can be damaged by bumps etc, where a ssd drive has no moving parts .
If yo want a second hand top of the line HP elite book I have a few for sale with ssd drives for around$400. [email protected]

  • If your on the road all I would say is look for these specs:

Bare minimum of 4GB RAM, 8GB recommmended
SSD Flash Storage of at least 128GB
    Weighs about 1.5KG or less

XPS 13 Ultrabook $1,498.99 or Macbook Air 13" with 8GB RAM Upgrade $1,459.00 are my picks for under $1500.
