Hi Megan,
thank you for the reply, I'm in Melbourne too! :)
amazing deal @ $53.00, only disadvantage is the brand: Homemaker… :(
it doesn't seem like it would last long?
there was a Sanyo Microwave for $50+ earlier at DSE(Dick Smith), I called in & check for stock but they've run out + they've rude attitude…
might go for Sanyo at Harvey Norman @ $78.00

are there anymore deals out there? guys & girls? :*I
DSe for cheap microwaves was/is a good idea but they have been slowly getting rid of all small appliances.
Maybe the store you called up has not stocked microwaves for months or years, hence the "'tude".
Good luck in finding a good microwave.
I'm in the sasme boat.
Yep, Homemaker is the basic generic stuff, would certainly do if it was just for light reheating and defrosting etc. It may pay for you to stop in at a Kmart to check what else they have on the shelf, as they do have the name brands.
Good Luck with it :)

Not much to go wrong with a microwave - in a couple of instances have found friends dead mwave is just a blown fuse - might be worth checking - they do use a slow blow fuse.
Been looking for a microwave as well as my current one has died.
Is an expensive double convection but all I really need is a 1000W Stainless Steel that can crisp up a frozen pie under 8 minutes.
Have been using the oven and 40 minutes for a meat pie is way too long ;-)
My Grandma has been happy with the generic microwave I bought at Safeway about 6 months ago. It is very small which makes it perfect for heating up single servings. Best of all it has no buttons or lcd display, just two large round analogue dials. The fact that she doesn't have to hunt out her reading glasses and/or a magnifying glass just to reheat some soup means that she actually uses the microwave. So perhaps you should be seeking a microwave with similar controls (maybe the same brand) to what your granny is used to.
For myself, I like the sound of Crownie's deluxe microwave that can actually crisp pies, but I wouldn't recommend such a device to my Grandma.
I had a look at ALDI's offerings today.
Not bad for $99 and plenty of stock at Southland- the 900W micro power and 1100w convection.
There is another going on sale Jan 15th but it doesn't look very good for $20 less http://aldi.com.au/au/html/offers/2827_6879.htm
Also took a look at The Good Guys and you'll be hard pressed to find anything under $100 :-(
Kmart has 40% off microwaves at the moment, sale lasts for another two days. I'm in Melbourne, I think their sales are national?
I just checked on www.lasoo.com.au and there is a homemaker microwave for $53.00 showing in their catalogue
