I know this has been cheaper before at Dick Smith, but that deal is gone now, and so are all the other specials that Dick Smith had on GPS's. I was in the market for one, and this is the best deal I can find for a decent TomTom.

Not all shops have stock (many indicate low stock), but BigW in Belmont (WA) had plenty.

The lifetime maps are really quite worthwhile, because one year of map updates costs more than the whole product. I am having to decomission my perfectly good 3yo TomTom because it would cost more to update it.

Good enough gps for a cheap one, but its irritating how you have to type in the postcode for each address. As another reviewer said, if I know the post code of a suburb, I probably know the area well enough to not need a gps.

    • I believe you can choose to enter either postcode or locality (suburb). So you don't necessarily have to. I do agree that it can be annoying; if you do not know the exact suburb, then it can be hard. A freeform search should not be too hard for them to implement.

I find just entering the suburb as the capital city then the street brings up suburbs with that street in it. Works most times.

        • if they could do what Melway/Sydway etc…

put in the street name and bring up all suburbs that contain these street names
it's a long list, but it's good sometime when you don't know what the suburb name…. :p

  • Sometimes suburb is not good enough. It can come back as not found. Either the establishment or business has provided an incorrect suburb or the GPS is wrong. I usually have to google the correct address and suburb as the GPS usually places the business in a neighbouring suburb to the one provided by the business.

    • this happen not to only TomTom but other brands too…….

Wasn't this one $79 at Dick Smith, at least until last week? That's hardly a deal!

    • Yes it was. But not anymore, and they did not have any stock to begin with (I tried to get one - phoned a few shops but even the shops indicating "low stock" did not have any). JB Hifi had this model for just over $100, but that special is gone too. I don't think you should judge this on the basis of a price no longer available from a shop that didn't have stock.

At the moment, this is the cheapest price (for any Tom Tom), which is what counts.

      • I priced matched it from JB for $79 few weeks back as all DS nearby had refurbished or returned GPS.

  • I called to see if there were any in stock yesterday for one of the stores in NSW. They said they had about 5 units, but when I turned up today, there were none. The girl said the person who answered the phone yeasterday probably confused it for the Navman EZY 45 4.3" GPS which is also for $98 (although I did specify the right model when I called).
