Virgin airlines - ID check

I was going to go with my daughter on the jacobs creek getaway. She may be required to stay.

If my girlfriend uses her ticket and does not check any luggage and does online check-in, does anyone know if virgin checks ID at the gate?

I suspect not, but just looking for confirmation.

  • I flew with virgin a few weeks ago. Carry on luggage only. No one checked for ID at any stage, just my ticket at the gate.

  • I've flown with Virgin 3 or 4 times over the last 2 years, used online check-in every time and only took carry-on. Never once had my I.D checked.

  • You'll probably get away with it - the only time I've had to present ID is when I didn't have a printer and I was at one of those little airports without self-check in kiosks. They wont check at the gate once you're through screening.

At worst, you might have to buy a ticket on the spot.

  • Just play dumb if they ask and say you don;t have any ID

  • Yeah,

I figured that there'd be no ID check if no bags and you checked in online.

  • I have found that sometimes they may not ask. But if they do you have to be the person on their system.
The safe way out is to have the ticket owner there with you to check in then they can leave and you can fly.
You can sometimes get away with checking in on the net. But this is not always guaranteed as they may still ask for ID.

    • I have never seen an agent at the actual gate asking for id on a domestic flight as people enter the plane. Have you? I'm not saying it doesn't happen. I'm just thinking that the people behind would be a bit cross as they had to wait while someone dug around in their handbag for the ticket. That would be the sole point of contact if no baggage was checked and you did online check in.

So, you've seen this happen on virgin?
