I need a bike for me to travel to school, which is around 4km. I will be doing this everyday it doesn't rain. I am around 160-170cm and looking for a bike around $50-200, but $150 highest would be better.

Have you tried ebay and gumtree, also you have some awesome bike shops in ACT they might have a 2nd Hand bike for a good price..garage sales??

everyone I talked to who does ride a bike around our suburb has told me the same thing: for 1st time bike purchases, instead of a new bike <$400, get a 2nd hand bike off gumtree/garage sale / ebay for under $150 and, if needed, get it serviced by a bike shop (or check with local/city councils if they run a free bike service workshop).
We went to local bike shops last month to try different bikes for me (cycling newbie), hubby and teenage son. The cheapest bike that I felt confortable riding was a $499 Giant Hybrid. Hubby and son liked similar priced bikes by Shogan. We ended up getting the 2 shogan bikes (in appropriate sizes) in ready to ride condition off ebay for <$120. Very happy with them but will probably have them serviced soon.
Now wish me good luck finding the right sized bike bargain for me soon.
