Skil 2412 Li-Ion 10.8v Drill/Driver $29 Bunnings Stafford (Clearance)

140

This looks like a pretty decent light-duty drill/driver. It's Li-Ion powered so it'll maintain its charge between uses. It has a mechanical clutch that your screw heads will love! Torque is 11.3Nm. Not very high, but good enough for light home use.

Skil is owned by Bosch, which is why the charger and battery looks so similar to the Bosch 10.8V range. I'd be interested to see if the Skil battery fits the Bosch - it'll be cheaper than buying replacement batteries if it does!

No idea if it's available in other Bunnings outlets, sorry! There's a small stack of them there, not sure if they have any more.

  • Retail US$75 http://www.skilshop.com/skil-2412-01-12v-cordless-3-8-in-lit…
Would be interested to see if this was in more stores as I need a new drill/driver…

  • Good for spare in house stuff

  • Is it nationwide?

    • Not sure, unfortunately. I suppose since it's a big chain store, if your local Bunnings does have stock, it'll be marked down too.

  • Just popped down to Bunnings - North Geelong(VIC) and asked. They don't stock this brand at all :(

  • I got some of these for $20 a set a while back at bunnings capalaba and yes they are actually very very good. I had a dodgy 24v dick smith ni-cad drill before this and this is way better. I think they are about the same as a 12V one in the US but something to do with the asian market they have to be sold as 10.8V. I bought mine at what I thought would just be used as a driver only but it so good and compact I switch bits and use for the whole job. They are not brushless of course and don't mind sparking when the motor is first engaged.

Also bought one for my father-in-law who is a painter and just uses it to strip doors handles and hooks off walls prior to painting and to put back on again. He never runs out of charge apparently.

    • Thanks for the report!

In the US they're sold as "12V Max" for marketing reasons. The open-circuit (unloaded) voltage of the battery is about 12V, but the individual cells are actually rated at 3.6V. There are 3 of them so that's 10.8V. 12 is higher than 10.8, so they use !@ there. Not sure why they don't use 12 here, but that's a good thing!

  • Exactly 12 left on the shelf as at ten minutes ago 9.43 AM.

  • I just picked up the last one on the shelf for a friend this afternoon. I wonder how many were purchased by OZBers.
