    sounds great

ICS 4.0 is a bit poor though? for a unit not even for sale yet?

    • I am never trusting pre-sales from chinese online vendors.

Only buy something when they have stock or when they say they will be getting stock in 2-3 days

Damn, must be a new car model. :p

  • 8gb storage makes it worthless.

    • +1

You do realise you can add a microSD card, right?

      • So what? Are you going to root it to allow installing apps on micro sd?

        Doesn't work well in practise.

16gb isn't enough either so I don't know why I bother. Manufacturers refuse to upgrade storage to make more money even though it's sorely needed.

        • It's not a matter of manufacturers refusing to make more money, it's because the majority of people aren't installing massive apps and hence don't need huge amounts of inbuilt storage, so they're more likely to buy a cheaper 8GB model than a more expensive 16GB/32GB one.

        • +1

I don't see why they don't just solder a 64gb SD card in there and then then just seal the slot so it doesn't even look like its there.

        • +1

Again, because not everyone needs that amount of storage, and even if they did they might not need it yet and would be better off waiting until prices drop.

Though this sounds great on paper, I'd almost garuantee it would be a POS in reality.
IE very cheaply manufactured - bad plastics, joins no met properly, creaks under the presuure of holding etc.
Its obviously a knock off of the galaxy s3/note 2 and you will no doubt gwt what you pay for. There is a reason you are only paying a fraction of the price and that will be the overall quality and and longetivity of the product.

My biggest concern would be software compatibility. Software from Samsung themselves for all exnos based galaxy phones is piss poor already, I'd hate to see what a third party makes of it. Just because its got "good specs" it does not mean you can necasarily use them. Some obscure devices get marked as incompatible by a lot of developers on the play store. Unless you can root the device there is really nothing you can do about that and just accept that you have a cheap ass tablet that can't do things it should/you want it to.

Since it is an obscure devices there will be very little if any developer support, so the ability to root it might be out of reach. Since its a exynos board developers will avoid it like a plague also so there is even less chance of dev support.

    Pre-Sell -
"I'm thinking about buying in some stock of these, but I'd like to make sure I'll have a customer base for them, before I make any outlay."

    Inspiring business practices right there.

  • Pre-sell -_-"
make sure you pay via Paypal and if goods not shipped within a month dont forget to do a charge back via Paypal.

    • Doesn't that only apply to ebay items?

      • You can still raise a dispute for items not purchased on eBay
For example, plenty of people raised a dispute against Deals.com.au for non-delivery of their item, and were successful (I was too).

The full Paypal Buyer Protection details do mention the following for eligibility:
        c) your payment is not a personal transaction payment and is made through:

        i) an eBay “Pay Now” button or an eBay invoice; or
ii) the “Send Money” button of your Account by selecting “eBay Item” and entering your eBay User ID and the eBay item number for purchases on eBay; or
        iii) the “Send Money” tab on our Website, by clicking the “Purchase” tab, or by selecting the “Checkout with PayPal” button or otherwise selecting PayPal as part of a Seller’s PayPal checkout flow;

These changes (originally there was a separate policy for eBay purchases and non-eBay purchases) were made relatively recently (i.e., within the last few years), so it is understandable if not everyone is aware of it. :)

TL;DR Non-eBay purchases are eligible for Paypal Buyer Protection (so long as you follow the correct payment procedure and don't buy intangible/custom/etc)

"at least its not too yum cha, if that even makes sense" - from a Chinese online website, almost certainly coming from the Hynix China factories for them to sell it direct. Not to mention the racist undertones of such remark..

He means it's a somewhat respected company not an unknown

But nice way to blow things out of proportions…

Found their FB page… plenty of disappointed customers, some of whom weren't smart enough to raise a dispute before the 45 day period expired.
The page advertises free shipping, but the default shipping selection is for a courier, which has a cost of a bit over 12USD.
Variation of product to product between batches only emphasises the lack of QC.

    • $10 more here http://www.merimobiles.com/hyundai-t7-exynos-4412-quad-core-…
but i am yet to hear of anyone who didnt get their tablet or their money form meri, unlike pandawill (that said, they can still be a pain in the bum, just an honest pain in the bum who do try their best lol)
marked as pre-order at meri too
best to check slatedroid and tabletrepublic forums for info imo, that is wher u will most likely find roms etc
most china droids come rooted from the factory, ask before ordering if not and meri generally will do it for you

  • So do the cheap quad core tablets like this effectively support 1080p .mkv files?

XBMC support would be ideal, but since my only "smart" device currently is a jailbroken iPhone 4, I'm thinking a cheap android tablet will dazzle me!

    • dunno about xbmc but dlna is supported well by apps and there is a free mythtv frontend

    • I'm certain it'll have no problems with 1080p mkv files, but possibly not through XBMC because the main release of it doesn't have hardware acceleration.

  • In theory this "should" be able to do 1080p mkv files (based on the fact my Samsung galaxy can) BUT don't forget that the unit's screen resolution will be less than this, so unless your outputting to a higher resolution monitor you won't be seeing anything in 1080p.

  • I got an ipad for Chrismas and could not resist the Vita deal so I will pass otherwise I would buy this

  • Can anyone confirm if the GPS module works without a wi-fi or internet connection? Looking to replace my Windows CE 7" touchscreen that I use as a car GPS…

    • The official Hyundai website indicates gps, but I cant read Chinese to see if it is installed or assisted

      http://www.hyundai-digital.cn/ShowProduct.asp?ID=158

      • Davros, if the specs say that it has gps sensor, it has a gps sensor. A gps sensor directly reads from gps satellites - the Russian system as well for upper spec Samsung devices, increasing accuracy and coverage in some circumstances.
Whether or not a given map or other app that uses gps functions better with a data connection when you're on the go varies. Generally speaking - you'll be fine.

        • Yeah well, there was an ainol released recently that had GPS clearly marked on the pre release info, but when it came to the actual unit it didn't have one in it.
          http://www.jsxltech.com/blogs/ainol-forum/7143406-ainol-novo…

        • It is, or should be a given with tech, that you never rely on posted specs from one location be it manufacturer, seller or reviewer. Where you can you cross reference, or take a gamble.
Always particularly risky if you buy something pre-release, but I have read in at least four different posts, including the 'Liliputing' one I linked for you that this has gps. Pretty reasonable bet. Confirm with seller by email so you have something in writing if you feel you need to.

  • There is a deals prime review and comparison of this tablet vs Ainol Venus.

This T7 scored 14k on Antutu and Venus Scored 6k.

T7 has bluetooth, gps receiver and also flash camera. so for right now Ainol delivers to Aus for 135 bucks and this is 155 bucks, for an extra 20 bucks plus 8k more performance on Antutu you wouldnt go wrong, but just a side note, Antutu isnt everything so dont just base on that.

  • Just got an email from these guys indicating they have run out of stock and are offering me other items up to 10% more as a replacement.

In the meantime they're still advertising the unit.?!?!?!?

Obviously, have requested a refund. Thankfully went through PayPal so will make a note for early next month to take the next step if the refund isn't forthcoming.

  • Cancelled my order a while back as I couldn't be bothered waiting.
Still waiting for the other tablet I ordered (groan)
