The way payment systems are setup from Apple donations would take a long time and we would receive less than what was donated as Apple takes a cut. As our small studio has not reached the likes of Rivio yet so any donations would be minimal.

If anyone finds the app useful, they could donate 0.99 to the victims charity if they want :)

Stupid phone, didn't mean to neg you jv. Sorry!

if you're so concerned, why don't you donate your time and money, that would be much more useful than you being a desk jockey whinging about others

Thanks for the offer. Unlike jv, I think this is a good time to make this offer.

While the dangers around are worrying many of us, it is good to know that there is a tool which can help get our insurances organised.

I will give it a try, thanks!

  • Got it to try. Thank you!

I think most insurance companies for house and contents just go off an overall market value agreed upon when you insure.

i.e you value your contents at 100K then you insure for 100K, if your house washes away, you claim 100K no receipts needed (as you can't be expected to produce receipts if your house washes away or burns down!!)

The value of the house is also agreed upon in a similar manner no?? Higher the agreed value, the higher the premium and excess.

Happy to be corrected if I am wrong.

But the app could be handy to help you estimate your contents value I guess and seems to do a few other things :)

You need to supply proof of ownership (photos, receipts, bank statements etc) but if you lose everything, you still need to show some evidence that you really owned $x amount and your income supports owning that much.

Otherwise some idiots insure there home for a million and contents for $300K when they realluy have no where near that

      • That's not a fact, that's your opinion.

I rang Allianz as I was curious myself and they stated in a completely destroyed home, they will payout the agreed value of the house and contents.

The more you insure your contents for, the more your premium is.

Your council could be contacted to verify a valuation of your home via rates notices, or if your home is under a loan, the bank can be asked provide its most recent valuation. Its all in your signed agreement with your insurance provider that they can investigate these things if they wish.

Also collectibles and antiques must be separately insured, under their own plan, with photos and valuation certificates sent to the insurance company and an app such as this could help those people.

Its a different story if you are robbed, but that's not what we are talking about here.

        Get your facts straight.

  • When your house is broken into, you will definitely lose your iPad and the app.
So you lose all record and digital evident!

    • Thats where icloud sync comes in :)

Just get a new ipad or iphone and grab your icloud backup, and you will have all your records.

    • As the OP stated, you should sync to iCloud.

  • Got this last time it was free… havent used it as i only have a 2G touch (never paid for it mind you, but got it as a legitimate freebie), which seems to be being made extinct now with most app releases requiring iOS 4.3 and no apple support past iOS 4.2…

…my only guess is that apple want me to continue using my android, however this app doesnt seem to be there… yet

how is this more convenient that taking pics of the item, receipt and storing them in Dropbox or some other backup?

in future what if the app gets pulled from the app store? or we change devices to a non-ios device? will we be able to backup everything and port to a new system?

    • We are currently working on an Android version of the app. Once completed we would have an option for current users to backup and migrate their data to a new database. However this would be up to the user.

To handle users who have both android and Iphone the new database would not be using iCloud and would likely have a dropbox option and an option to use our own Database. This new DB will also enable users to extract PDF reports and csv Extracts :)
