So I booked Feb 2nd for my mystery holiday. I am in Rockhampton (central QLD) and with a small airport I have worked out that my flight times match up to a holiday in Brisbane. The only thing is that Rockhampton airport may be flooded with a rising river by Feb 2nd and I would be holidaying in an also flooded Brisbane! We dont have phones/internet here with all telstra services out for the last few days so I can't check terms and conditions easily on my poor service optus mobile but I assume I will lose the holiday if the airport is flooded? I should have booked later in the year!!

Internet is back for us (hurray!) but not home phones and I checked the terms on the JC site and natural disasters will cause the holiday to be invalid. Oh well. Only $180 out of pocked, with the 2 $30 booking fees and the $120 to buy the wine! Unfortunalely I have been feeding a baby/pregnant so couldnt drink the wine. The worst part is that my family said don't do it - mystery holidays are never worth it. I so wanted to prove them wrong! I do love a bargain.
Another thought - lokk at buying travel insurance. though there is only really the booking fees to be refunded.
If they had a rebooking costs for another time clause, would be good.Hmmm thanks. My credit card may even have travel insurance. Thanks
Give them a call tomorrow on 1300 604 911
I'm sure that they will be accommodating and adjust your flight given the circumstances. If not then contact virgin directly and see what they can do.
I need to call them as well.
You CAN change dates, but they change the difference. Whatever that means. If you can, just tell them to put you on the first weekend where there is no difference.
The problem is that they apparently want your cc details and charge you whatever the difference is and you only find out later what that difference was. That was my take on their email.
I am sure they will be sympathetic.
I am booked to fly from Sydney to Gold Coast on the 4th February. Hoping everything will be fine by then.
I called and was told that there are no changes allowed whatsoever once the dates are confirmed.
If the actual airport is closed/flights cancelled, they will do something for you. Case by case. Could be as little as a refund of the booking fee.
Brisbane is fine, so here's hoping your airport is open tomorrow. After the wet couple of weeks you've had, a break to just about anywhere for a couple of days will do you good.
Update - The airport was all set to stay open and the predicted flood level had been low enough all week with hourly updates by the authorities UNTIL 6pm Friday night, when suddenly they added another 25cm to the flood peak and closed the airport - after the Jacobs creek phone number was closed for the weekend!! I had my bags and my babies stuff all packed ready for our early Saturday morning flight. However luckily for me I made some direct phone calls and the hotel in Brisbane allowed me to change dates and so did the airline. We were very lucky and will try again in 2 weeks.
Thanks for the update. Glad it all worked out, I was concerned when I saw the airport was closing on the news. Can people please post what hotels they have got either here on the original post? I'm not very good with mystery. I'm going to Gold Coast but I have friends and family going to Brisbane and Melbourne .
Hey Barry I am so very happy for you. Bit of a hassle, but it looks like ozzie businesses are coming to the party.

I'm in Bundaberg. I was pleasantly surprised to see last week that several of the chain-type stores were selling heavily discounted clothes, rather than trying to wrangle every extra cent they could out of those who had lost everything in the floods.
Vibe Hotel for gold coast
That's nice!

Fantastic! You an't ask for better service than that. Well done. :)
I am going to gold coast tomorrow
By the way our hotel is Mercure Brisbane King George Square. http://www.mirvachotels.com/mercure-brisbane-king-george-squ… It seems like a pretty decent hotwl and a great central location. I really was expecting a formula 1 in the outer suburbs.
Sort of what I've been expecting to, so it's good to know. :)
If someone gets Sydney before Anzac day, can they report back on the accomodation please?
Nubzy, how was your Gold Coast break?
If you check out the original mystery flights post people (including nubzy) are reporting back how their trips went. All good so far. I'm getting excited.
Brisbane wouldnt be much of a holiday in the wet anyway although should be more settled by next weekend.
At least you're not stranded in a shelter. Stay at home and enjoy your JC wine.
You wouldn't be too much out of pocket, would you?
My motto is always - safety 1st, fun 2nd.
