Wireless mechanical keyboard

Hi,

I'm looking at buying a wireless mechanical keyboard but it doesn't seem to be a very popular item. The only thing could find (probably I haven't been looking very hard) is this Cherry Brown U9W

any other suggestions?

  • curious, why is it a wireless MECHANICAL keyboard - and not just 'wireless keyboard'?

i suggest you look at MLN, etc etc…go to the computing section of this site and have a look at which stores post deals on this site regularly, then check out their online stores. also ebay will have a lot of wireless keyboards.

    • Yeah, if not mechanical then they would be onscreen keyboards. So pretty much any standalone keyboard for consumers is mechanical. Though some mechanical keyboards have shallow travel.

OP, you're probably restricting your search by introducing the spurious "mechanical".

    • +1

Mechanical means real physical switches on each key. Normal keyboards use a form a proximity sensing and just put a spring under the keys.

Mechanical keyboards are nice to use but are usually loud and heavy, so I don't think there is a large demand for a wireless variant.

      • Yeah, probably my museum piece AT keyboard is like that. They are rare now and expensive due to the switches. But I consider all of them mechanical because there is travel and finger force is required. Some may feel spongier than others that's all.

        • main difference between normal keyboard and mechanical one is that with due care, the springs in a mechanical keyboard lasts much longer than their counterparts in normal keyboards.

        • But at the prices these days does long life matter?

        • Sure, you can get a decent, short-life keyboard but having to replace it once/twice a year means more waste to the environment, and you risk high chance of disruption to the use pattern when you can't get the same keyboard replacement.

Just like sitting in a new chair and not feeling that buttcheek mould that's been following you for years long…

        • haha, i swear that my ps3 controller has my finger shape moulded on. I can instantly tell that it's mine by feeling it.

  • you may have to settle for something that is wired…..most mechanical boards are gaming orientated and wireless + gaming is generally not something you find too often

  • thanks for the input guys, I work with engineering 3D CAD software and a tad of programming, so the amount of keyboard use is pretty much same as a keen gamer. However, input latency or wireless interference isn't that great of a concern for me.

The wireless is because I have multiple workstation setup. Even though they're close to each other, I still need to physically move between them from time to time, so wireless helps.
