FTTP Opticomm Connection Fee New House - Stella Group

Does anyone here ever used Stella Group to connect the internet service for the first time for FTTP Opticomm in VIC?

I got quoted $550 for the new connection fee and $200 for the other services (site survey & pipe proving etc) - they are recommended by the builders and can start doing the work while the new house is built.

Does $750 cost sounds reasonable for the connection fee for FTTP Opticomm?
I tried to get quotes from other ISP but they do not have the answer straight away as they need to contact Opticomm directly first to get the quote.

If anyone can share their experiences, that would be great!

Cheers

    Mine was free.

    • how?

Probably was NBN FTTN to FTTP upgrade which won't apply to you. Every new house will have some sort of connection fee, whether it be Opticomm or NBN.

      • Ours was as well as most developments or councils (not all) pay for the installation.

      • Scomo paid for it.

        • Tax Payer paid for it.

Mine was free too, for FTTP for new build.. then TPG one-off $300 nbn (wave off connection fee) for been long term client.

Yes its part of the construction.

      • It was definitely contructed.

  • $750 sounds reasonable. Quick Google shows NBN appears to be $600.

nbn may charge a one-time end-user contribution (EUC) of up to $300 (including GST) for each premises in a new development. nbn may recover the EUC from phone and internet providers that place an order for an nbn® service at a premises in a new development (and the providers may choose to pass the charge onto their end-users). Alternatively, nbn may recover the EUC from another person (e.g. a housing authority, landlord or developer).

OP is in an Opticomm estate…
Which is privately owned fibre - abit different to NBN.

Then OP has no choice :)

  • Hypothetically, if didn't go down the FTTP route and chose something like Starlink for example. You would be able for roughly $550 for the kit (assuming you are in the metro area and/or a non-eligible free hardware location), plus roughly $650 for the install (including roof mounting) and then $139 a month. So you are looking at $1200 installed. So $750 is pretty good for FTTP which will be better than Starlink.

Yep used Stella for our build North Vic, i ended up getting quotes and they were about $30-$50 more expensive but because they were builder approved they could work on site during construction so just paid it to avoid delays.

Also majority of the fee goes to Opticomm, they will give you an invoice breakdown. From memory they only made $150-$200

    try get NBN instead

My house was built on the Telstra velocity network which then was bought out by Opticomm, new connection was free.

  • Conduit to the boundary is builders responsibility, from boundary to the pit is Opticom responsibility. No sure why you have to pay anything at all especially to 3rd party. You must be building with Boutique right?

  • @Taro Milk Tea: I have used them for my build and it was ~$150 more than opticomm fee. It was mainly convenience to go with Stela Group as they were quicker to install than Opticomm. There will be a wait time if you go with Opticomm directly.
