I bought my first lot in bulk off eBay. Bought heaps, & split half with a friend. They came to about $20 kg, which is a great rate. But, that seller has put their prices up, because of the shortage. Most health food shops sell small packets which work out to nearly double that.
I've also bought some from the local Farmers market. A couple selling nuts, seeds & dried fruit had them at a reasonable price.
The good thing is that chia seeds last fresh for a long time, I believe it's 2 years, so buy in bulk to get a good price.
Remember when you eat them, you need to drink more water afterwards. I keep mine in a jar of water ( in a gel form) in the fridge. 1 part chia to 9 parts water.
Also, chia is always organic, because they don't require pesticides.
It looks like Vitacost have good prices. http://www.shopbot.com.au/m/?m=Chia+Seeds&ptype=grid&order=l…
The pharmacy I used to work at in Ryde sells them for @19.95 for a kilo
got a name or address?
Have you tried your local coles/woolworths? I know both near me do in the health food section.
they both have it but only in 250g lots at a cost of almost $40/kg
woolworths has them, black and white, which one are we supposed to consume? whats the difference? its by MACRO i think.
They're basically the same nutritionally. Some say the black seeds have slightly more antioxidants, but negligible amounts.
I got 1kg for 23.95 at healthy life in carlingford a bit over a week ago, on sale normally 29.95. Not sure if sale is still on or at other healthy life stores but you could phone and check if interested I guess. Was the cheapest I could find. They had black or white, the chia co. brand.
I'd like to know too. The only ones available are not cheap and are in health food stores. One supplier told me there is a worldwide shortage. I add some to homemade bread BTW.
